Take Lanes - why won't the previous "take" mute?

Hello All!

I know I must be missing something here.  And for the life of me, I can't figure it out.  Using the new Platinum here.

Here are my settings: In Preferences/Project/Record:
  • Record Mode: Comping
  • Auto Punch: Checked
  • Mute Previous Takes: Checked
  • Loop Recording: Store Takes in Single Track
  • Lanes: Create New Lanes on Overlap: Checked
  • Multi-track grouping: Do not group tracks
All of that looks correct to me, however, there is specific issue I can't get passed.  When recording on an AUDIO track, with the Take Lanes expanded, no matter what, the PREVIOUS take is always ON, and not muted.  If I have many takes, the rest are always muted, except for the very last take.  This sucks!!  In my case, I would like to record the new take and have ALL OTHER TAKES muted including the very previous one.  But as of now, all will be muted except the last take.  So I am always hearing the last take no matter what.

In a scenario where I might make a huge blunder in the previous take, I would like to be able to record the next take without having to hear the boo-boo at all.

So, if I am recording the 8th take, why am I still hearing the 7th take, while takes 1-6 are muted?

Can someone PLEASE weigh in here and tell me what I am doing wrong?  In the meantime, my silly work-around is that between each take I have to record a "dummy" take without actually recording, say a vocal,  so that the next take is done with a silent take before it.  What a waste when I have to sit and wait for the time to pass along before I do the actual recording.

Thanks in advance for any input on this!

If you don't want to hear anything at all from the track use its mute button. If you're input monitoring use the lane's mute button.

I'm not at my desk right now, but I'm pretty sure, once you mute the first take lane, every lane after that is muted, which leaves the track unmuted for input monitoring if that's what you need. If you loop record, it auto mutes each take lane from the outset. I honestly have never had an issue with this, and I do many, well too many really, takes...

    Dave, you are right!

I was having this issue because I didn't have my "punch in and punch out" set.  As soon as I did that, I was able to do as many takes as I wanted without having to hear the previous takes.  Whew.  What a life saver this feature is.  Thank you for your feedback.

Karl,  thank you also for your reply.  Unfortunately your method wouldn't work for me because I am recording in a different location (in a sound booth) and not in front of the console, so I don't have the luxury of hitting mute on each take lane before recording the next.  But I DO need to hear myself when I'm in the booth while recording a take so I can't just mute the entire track.

Glad to have figured this out.  Thanks again!
