Take Me Under Your Wing
http://soundcloud.com/dav...ake-me-under-your-wing Consider this an upbeat Pop song (unless anyone has any suggestions for the genre..?) This was my first time on a slightly better mic (albiet, still a crappy gaming headset mic, but FAR superior noise suppression to what I had before), and additionally, I did much more rigorous Autotuning than usual to account for my lack of vocal talent. Tell me what you guys think! Specifically about the mixing effort, vocal FX'ing, and lyrical content, please?

David: Given your description of the gaming/headset mic, vocal auto-tune etc, I was cringing before I hit the "play" button -- I didn't need to! Pleasantly surprised, dude! First, the beat is really cool it's kinda reminiscent of a Beatles tune but with some nice original touches. I wanted to go back a 2nd time to let you know something I particularly liked... it is around .30 when you brought a little organ in, I wasn't expecting it and it fits well. Your vocals are actually fairly clear and crisp in the mix, at least on my lil' ear buds here on my notebook. sounds like you are using a track doubling on the lead? Your harmonies are quite good. Lyrics are right on, very interesting and well-performed song! A big thumbs-up from me, and thanks for posting this gem! -John

Wow! Great writing of such a cool tune! I agree with John, it reminds me of the Beatles a bit. Excellent mixing. My only crit is that I'm not sure I'm crazy about the doubled vocal... or is it just a really short delay? My ear wants to hear your voice in a different space for some reason. However, the harmonies are tight and sound really good. Well played, and well recorded. More!!

The headset mic actually sounds good on this ..... I thought the vocal was good but perhaps a tad too dry, I think that's what Tony's talking about when he mentions "hearing it in a different space"...... but it works well in the context of the song..... which grew on me rather quickly. The songwriting is good. Harmony and vocals are good too. Perfect length too ....3:30, for a pop song. Good job. Well done.

Your headset mic seems to be exactly right for this song. Your vocals are quite good, and I like your choices in how you mixed them. The lyrics are good, the performances are strong, and the overall vibe is bright and cheery. Very fine!

@ John: Thanks a ton! I'm definitely no vocalist, but this one I really tried on! (PS, I heard some of your works, and your voice is GORGEOUS!!!) @tbosco: Haha, thanks! Funny you guys see the Beatles in this one... I'll admit (throw whatever pencils or clipboard you want at me) that I never really listened to many of thier upbeat songs, but I do like Elenor Rigby, I Am the Walrus, and a coupla assorted others. Now, I'm wondering for on some details about the doubling vocals.... That's on the lead during verses? Or only in the chorus? Because I used a 'space widener' effect on all the vocals in this one to relax the 'dryness' just a tad, in conjuction with a slight reverb, small gate and EQ. But the chorus specifically has the lead dual-recorded to thicken it up a bit. @GH: It really does. Add that with the above effects mentioned, and it's not half bad! Of ccourse I plan to upgrade really soon (the day is just getting closer, I can FEEL it!) Glad you like it!! @shawn: I'll give it a try, thanks for listening! Although now I wonder; what will it bring the song? I guess it's better to try it and find out than to wonder :D @Lynn: Sure is. On the real, it has a nice frequency response, most specifically the highs, where with the harmony and all, a lot of the vocals of this song just happened to lie. Thanks, I really put a little extra into this one because I knew the vocals were gonna be just as important as the music (because in most cases, I'll outright do a bad vocals job and think I can just cover it up with music an AT'ing, haha) Thanks for the strong feedback so far, everyone! The suggestions are great, they certainly serve to help me improve, and I'll take anything I can get!!
