"Take lane" to separate track. Please help.

Hi folks. I am happy that I did not jump the boat getting another Daw... Cakewalk was my friend for many years and I am hopeful it went to caring hands and will live long and happy life.
However there is one item that hopefully someone here can resolve for me or at least answer.

When I do vocal tracking, sometimes I would record 20+ takes on single track. Is there automated process to take individual "take" and make new track, with just that "take" lane. Most of takes might not be from the start, so simple "drag" would not place it in correct spot.
There are two workarounds that I usually do.
#1 make new track, copy take lane, paste at specific (same) time on new track.
#2 if I need two or more take lanes, I duplicate whole track and delete the ones that I do not need, leaving original track with all original takes for backup purposes.

Is there a more elegant / simpler way for this?

P.S.... Ideally, it would be nice to "hide muted take lanes" just leaving the un-muted showing in expanded "takes" view of the track, but I do not believe this is possible.

Thank you in advance.

I don't know if this could help but keep in mind that if you drag the clips or whatever you select into an empty area of the tracks (I mean below last track) and you keep CTRL and SHIFT pressed you get very quickly a new track with a  copy of the original content in the same exact timing.

    Just give a try....

    Giorgio, thank you!
    Almost, but not quite it...
This would work for some instances, but not when I have many tracks and a take lane somewhere in the middle of the spaghetti soup  and I want to make new track out of that take lane....

Maybe somebody else can share please?

The only way I know of is to right click on the record button to bring up Recording/Comping options and select always add takes to new track.

Thanks, but that would not work for me. I like take tracks. Just looking for clean way to pull out 2-5 takes from the track that has 20+takes, leaving the rest for backup.

In addition to the using click, CTRL+click and SHIFT+click the take lane selection area (top level corner of the take lane header not the clip or clip area) depending on where the needed lanes are located, It may be easier to deselect from after selecting lanes. Use Paste Special to combine creating the a new track (Destination: Starting Track = <new>) and pasting the copy buffer.

scook, Yes! "paste special" That is 90% of what I want to accomplish. Thank you!
The only glitch for me is pasting at correct time. I found a workaround where I can zoom in on first (timeline speaking) "take lane" and place cursor there and when pasting it will use cursor mark time as starting point.

Can somebody please tell me if it is possible to paste multiple (selected) takes to new track simpler way other then zooming and placing a cursor at start of first take lane, so they are at correct time on new track....

    Thank you.

Clip position on the timeline is not a problem when selecting take lanes but it seems you are selecting clips in the take lanes and not the lanes themselves. Select, copy and paste the lanes not the clips. The clips will come along in their proper locations. Make sure "Starting at Time" is set to 1:01:000 in Paste Special.

What if you just cloned the track and then deleted the takes you don't want.

Scook, YESS!!! It worked! Thank you very much!

PaulG Thank you too! Actually I was using the method you described, but wanted to find a better way to clean up tracks. This method works, but lets say I have 30 take lanes and only want to keep only 3. With clone track method, it would take about 30 mouse clicks to get where I need to be. Scook's method is more robust :)

P.S. Maybe, in hopefully bright future with Bandlab, they will add something like "copy special" (similar to "paste special") menu, so you can copy  only "unmuted tracks" and other fun stuff "copy" options.

There already is a "Copy Special" dialog. It might be extended with added options. One thing I do not like is the location of the selection area on a take lane. It is too easy to accidentally delete the lane.
