Takes foreeeeeeeeeeeeeever to SAVE
X1 Producer, no update patches yet. Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I have a project with about 8 audio tracks, plus one instance of Studio Drummer 3. I think around when I added SD3 it started taking for-freaking-ever to save. Literally, 30-45 seconds to complete a save function. Anyone else seeing anything like this? Thanks, Adam.

Are you saving as a CWP or CWB? CWB's take that long because of their size. You should be saving as CWP and using per project folders and backing up the folders. CWBs are unreliable.

Should be CWP. (sorry I'm not at my DAW right now) What is the default? I know that I have a [Project Name] folder and Audio folder for this project.

Hi ! it occurs to me if I have auto-save on, and the project has been opened for quite a long time .. auto-saving over and over makes the process getting slower and slower... Hope that helps ! Cheers ! V

And, how long is this project? Number of tracks is fairly irrelevant compared to total length.

Long save times in any DAW usually is a result of a plugin saving Impulse Response or Sample Data inside the session/project file. Remove any plugins from the session which may be saving data inside the session file then Save As... and see if the save time is faster. If save time is faster check the plugin to se if there's an option to save the data externally so it's not saved inside the session project file. Rail ------------------- www.platinumsamples.com

@daveny5... I think if I was just doing a quick save while I worked I'd get a little annoyed with that. Right now though my quick saves are pretty much instantaneous. @AGershin... get the update patches. SD3 was causing me some serious glitches (and even stop engine errors) before I updated. I did however do a bunch of optimization as well as some other tweaks but you really should get the latest patches. They are there for a reason. Good luck.

I have a project with 9 soft synths which splits out to 19 audio tracks, the whole thing is about 3:40 in length and takes less than a second to save.

Awesome stuff, guys. Thanks. I will do the update patches ASAP. And then pull SD3 and see if that's the culprit.

You really shouldn't need to yank SD3 as it is supposed to work well with X1 but it's worth it just to check. If your system specs aren't up to the task maybe try freezing the SD3 tracks (post your specs... CPU, RAM, hardrives). That supposedly solves some resource problems (but I haven't needed to freeze anything as of yet). Have you optimized your system for audio production? If not I can post the link to what I used. I'm doing some other crud at the moment though. Good luck.

For the moment (meaning, until I see a screaming deal on an i7 Ivy Bridge setup) I'm running this in W7 Home Premium 64-bit in Bootcamp on a MacBook Pro. I don't think this is a resources issue. I have frozen SD3 but it ran fine 'un-frozen'. I just updated to x1c and Prod Expanded. I see some UI fixes that are nice. Just download x1d so I'm off to do that now.

x1d installed. I removed SD3 altogether and it still takes :30 or more to save. I have a separate session with SD3 in it and that one takes about 3 seconds to save. So I don't think it's SD3 that's hanging up my first session. Mystery continues.

Oh... you're on a Mac with bootcamp? I'm no expert but I really don't think that is ideal for Sonar. Did you just start using the program? And saying Macbook pro doesn't really give us the CPU speed or installed RAM specs. I'm sure you'll find if you get a proper PC for Sonar to live in your current problems will go away. I can't help any further with Mac stuff. Maybe someone else here has a similar set up. Best of luck.

See now? This is a lesson for us all. Please list specs or provide info as much as possible when asked. daveny5 has helped me and many others. I'd hate to see guys like him get frustrated and stop offering their advice. They are the foundation of this forum. I'm a little annoyed myself that you didn't mention you were on a Mac. That stuff is really important. If the only problem you are having with your current setup is slow save time I'd say you are ahead of the game. PS: daveny5, thank you for everything you do here and please keep being awesome. Cheers.

Thanks, Beepster. OP: I realize that it runs on a Mac, but I have no experience with that so had I known it, I probably wouldn't have put in my 2 cents. 30-40 seconds could be normal on a Mac running Windows since you are running 2 separate operating systems. Did you check to make sure you were saving as CWP and not CWB?

Everyone's .02 was still helpful, and I appreciate it. Sorry for any heartache caused and/or time wasted. Yes, I'm saving CWP's, thanks. I plan on buying a PC in the next couple weeks. However, I'm impressed at how well, overall, Sonar is running in bootcamp. I don't plan on also buying a PC laptop, so it's nice to know that I'll have a mobile rig that works. Peace.
