Tangerine Dream

My wife has just closed the door to where I'm having a beer or three and playing Slade Alive too loud, in her opinion!
So now I've decided to play some Tangerine Dream because I think she likes them. Or is it Mike Oldfield she likes?
I can never remember.

Over and Out.

Let me tell you this, it isn't because she likes them per se, it's because given a choice from your collection she dislikes them the least.

I'm kinda guessing that she may love you for many reasons but your musical taste isn't going to be cited as one of those reasons.

    Am I right?

My wife has just closed the door to where I'm having a beer or three and playing Slade Alive too loud, in her opinion!

Now you're talking my language Dave

I still have my original (and very well-worn) vinyl copy of Slade Alive! up in the attic somewhere - along with Old New Borrowed And Blue and the singles Mama Weer All Crazee Now and Gudbuy 'T Jane it was one of the first records I ever owned

Slade (and indeed Status Quo) were the two bands that really got me into guitar-driven rock at an early age.

I have one very tenous claim to fame regarding Slade, which at one time I was happy to tell anyone who'd listen - my dear late aunt's partner taught music at the secondary school Dave Hill attended in Wolverhampton. It wasn't too much of a stretch to inform everyone that she taught him to play the guitar!

I only saw them once, at the Reading Festival in 1980, where they were late replacements for Ozzy's Blizzard Of Oz, who pulled out at the eleventh hour. The festival was dominated by NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) bands including UFO, Iron Maiden and Def Leppard, as well as a few genuine rock acts - the best of which was Whitesnake.

Slade filled in admirably, and Noddy had the crowd eating out of his hand from the start - and boy could they play, what a blistering performance as I recall.

Anyway Dave, if you're listening to the re-released Live Anthology 2CD set, just remember that when you get to Merry Xmas Everybody - Strummy is part of the crowd singing along A Cappella

Steve - I put it in the cart at Amazon.co.uk last night.
I saw Slade once, at one of the Lincoln festivals - 1972 I think. Great Stuff.
Play it Loud (the skinhead cover) was a great lp too.

Re Status Quo - yes, I bought Dog Of Two Heads when it came out - superb. I hear Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon was good but never actually heard the lp.

In the end I had to forsake both Tangerine Dream and Mike Oldfield - my wife actually likes Metallica, so it was the black "album" - then (if anyone is still interested) followed by Uriah Heep Live, which coincidentally also has a black cover, but with a bit more writing on it.

First single I ever bought was Take Me Bak 'Ome by The Sladesters. I remember the fuddy duddy's going up in arms at the time, claiming that their misspelling of their song titles was going to turn out an illiterate generation of kids, what errant nonsense that turned out to be.

For some strange reason, I recall a great number from the twilight of their career - Radio Wall Of Sound, must look that one up on YouTube.

The only artists that my lovely partner and I seem to both like are Annie Lennox and Richard Hawley, other than that its a total waste of time me trying to get her to like other stuff. The really odd thing is, when she hears my own stuff coming out of my studio, she ACTUALLY THINKS ITS NOT ME ! Its so odd, and yet she has seen me perform on stage many times as both a drummer and as a guitarist / vocalist. Funny lass but I love her dearly.

Dave, stick on a bit of Michael Buble and you'll be good to go.
