Tascam FW 1884 questions?

I have a chance to purchase a used Tascam FW 1884 from a friend for a reasonable price I think. I'm currently using an EMU 1616 pci for my sound card and an older Mackie Control for my control surface. Got a Behringer ADA8000 hooked up to the EMU for additional tracks via adat pipeline.

Question: would it be a lateral move or a move up (or down) to the firewire tascam from my current setup. Opinions please. Better control surface than the MCU?
I'm still currently using XP home and 32bit.
Thanks!

Drumr, I like mine and it still works in the W/7 64 bit world! If you get a good price on it go for it!! There are a few qurks but most of the forums cover all of the fix's. dont spend more than 500 for it*****************good luck D
