Tascam US 20-20
Finally the big brother in the TASCAM US line, with 8 mic (2 DIs?), 2 line ins, 10 line outs, ADAT/Optical, SPidf, midi, 2 headphone outs and USB 2 & 3. Lists for $500, which means $400 or so on the street, maybe. Looking forward to driving one.. http://tascam.com/news/display/2449/

I wonder if Tascam will get into combo digital mixers/ audio interfaces next?? Seems logical for a company that always offered buget solutions for small studios.

The US-20x20 must be plugged into USB3 to get all of that I/O (5 GB/sec USB3 vs 480 MB/sec USB2). Fortunately, the work they did on the Win10 driver for the 20x20 seems to have benefited the Win10 driver they (finally) released yesterday for my US-16x08. The two devices really are different, though. The 20x20 is not just an extension of the 16x08. There are some real differences in the TYPES of i/o (balanced vs. unbalanced, e.g.). I suspect their target demographics are different. http://tascam.com/product/us-16x08/specifications/http://tascam.com/product/us-20x20/specifications/ I wouldn't mind the USB3 interface, but the only thing the 20x20 has that I wish the 16x08 had is two headphone amps vs. one. That would be great when I've got a second musician in the studio. This post on Gearslutz states a street price of $500, so we'll see how it prices out. Wish for a SDotD at MF. I snagged my 16x08 for $200. The 20x20 is due to ship in a month or so, so maybe there will be a decent Black Friday sale on it somewhere. https://www.gearslutz.com...channel-interface.html

Got mine yesterday! Having some issues with the device driver part of it in win7. Says it's not digitally signed. Crashes my Platinum before it ever gets started. Any one know about this?

so, to pick up on the basics that maartian covered: New USB 3.0 driver software has been developed to eliminate latency issues and driver set-up problems. In addition, the built-in mixer provides near-zero latency monitoring while recording. It utilizes the high-performance Dual Core BlackFin DSP making it possible to offer 4-band EQ and compression on each channel. A stereo reverb is also provided for great-sounding headphone mixes.
[Note] When operating at 176.4kHz or 192kHz, the effects (EQ, compression, phase, and reverb) of the DSP mixer cannot be used. [Note] USB3.0 connection requires Windows 10. i have to say, this may be in the running for my front end upgrade.

I never noticed the "Notes" before. Either they were added recently or ...

Just got one to check out. Hardware is really nice and it seems like a well-thought out piece of kit. The specs aren't quite up there with the UH7000 so I'm anxious to check the 20X20 out in real world applications. Sweetwater has them for $500 - lists for $650, which puts it in a different money league than their other units. But it almost matches my TC Konnekt 48 ins/outs for half the price. We'll see. @

<<<<[Note] USB3.0 connection requires Windows 10.>>>> I see that Craig Anderton reviewed this interface in the new ezine but he doesn't seem to mention the above limitation. Has there been any progress in development of a USB 3 driver for Windows 7 or does one still need Windows 10 to take advantage of the USB 3 connector? Or is it an issue of the USB 3 interface rather than the Tascam itself and does the Insignia NS-PCCUP53 USB 3.0 PCIe card which "includes a driver disc for Windows XP/Vista/7" (which Craig mentioned) solve the problem? Thanks, Bill
