Tascam US-144

I have a Tascam US-144 audio/MIDI USB interface. Can I input digital audio and MIDI through this into Sonar HS6? Or do I HAVE to use a soundcard?
First post here and I'm a new user. (New to home recording, also.)

Thanks in advance for any help/replies.

    1) Yes you can
    2) The Tascam will be your soundcard.

I have the 144's baby brother, the US 122L. The difference is that you have 4 mic inputs etc. instead of 2. As the previous poster stated, the Tascam is now your soundcard. When you install it, disable your internal soundcard using the control panel and going to system>hardware>device manager. Find your soundcard under audio (the exact terminology will differ from computer to computer).

I have found the Tascam to be a nice inexpensive soundcard that's ideal for guitar with vocal.

Thanks for the help & replies. When I loaded Sonar HS6 it did not recognize the Tascam interface. I'll try again to get it going.

what have you been using prior to the US-144? your onboard sound card? I would advise disabling the onboard sound card in windows, close SHS and reopen it. make sure the US144 is attatched before reopening SHS. if it doesn't ask you to run the wave profiler, then do it manually. go to OPTIONS>AUDIO>ADVANCED hit the button at the bottom that says WAVE PROFILER

this is assuming that you're running in WDM driver mode, also.

I believe your Tascam is going to be best used with ASIO drivers, so you'll have to go to Option>Audio>and switch the driver to ASIO, restart Sonar then Options>Audio, and choose the Tascam as your recording device and play back device, you may have to restart one more time, I'm almost positive, but the wave profiler will be disabled when using ASIO.
