Tawaraq

Hey everyone, I had finished the composition of this track a while back but I just recently revisited the mixing and mastering of the production. It has a intro and an outro that would make it a bit easier to mix in, feel free to skip around or listen to the whole thing.

Thoughts and feedback concerning the composition, mixing and/or mastering are welcome. If you have any questions about anything, please let me know.

    Hi Amine,

    Listening on my KNS-8400s.

I started at the beginning and carried on straight to the end...

I also downloaded Tawaraq track and placed it into my ongoing Sonar EQ study project so that I could see what was going on, via SPAN, too.

I can see from the wave that comes into Sonar it is a heavily compressed track with the RMS peaking at around about -13 DBFS. So it's nice and loud.

The kick and bass sit very well together, which makes this the perfect House tune, I guess (it's not a genre I normally listen to). Even when things are at their busiest, the kick and bass still power through.

I think I'll stick this on a SD card so I can listen to it in the car.

I don't do House, but I'll certainly use this as one of my "reference" tracks in the future

I can't add any comments with regards to the composition. As far as I am concerned, it fits perfectly with the genre, A great selection of sounds used throughout.

Mixing and mastering, well... As you know, this is an area I am still working on so I'm not going to embarrass myself more than I have already around the Songs forum

    cheers

    Hey synkotron,

I appreciate the reply. Believe it or not, it's not as loud as my reference track, but I actually don't mind that anymore. I am hoping that the end of the loudness wars in on the horizon. There were definitely some passages that were hard to mix just because of how busy the arrangement was, but I'm glad I tried to make it work. I appreciate the comments. You shouldn't worry about embarrassing yourself too much, I find it's one of the better ways to grow. I embarrass myself all the time when I try to speak a language I'm not really good at speaking, but I find the sooner and the more often I embarrass myself, the sooner I'll be able to get over it.

Again, thanks for the comments, I appreciate it.

I really enjoyed. Great beat, nice arps and pedal tone variations. The time stretch effects after some sections kept it interesting. Great sounding production.

Yeah, I think it works well within the style.   The kick is nice and solid to help keep things moving and there's a nice overdriven vibe happening.   Like Grant, I really liked the transitions between sections - very cool stutter/pitch bend effects.

Hey stevec, I appreciate you taking the time to comment. I worked a lot on those transitions. It was my way of bringing an acoustic drummer's approach to fills but re-imagining it for the style. There's always so much cool stuff to learn from every kind of music.

Nice track that would work well in a club or a tent at a festival, lots of opportunity for some mixing.

Overall the production comes across well here giving the Adam's a nice work out.

Good track, works well within its genre, thanks for sharing.

Hey Wookiee, I appreciate your the feedback. I assume the Adam's are your speakers. I was hoping my mixing environment wasn't making a huge negative impact on the production. Referencing is such an incredibly powerful too.

Yes Amine, I listen to songs here in the control room of my studio, which has Adam A7x's and Event 20/20's on isolation stands and the room is also treated.

Sorry for hi-jacking your song post Amine

    Hi Wookiee

    Wookiee
I listen to songs here in the control room of my studio, which has Adam A7x's and Event 20/20's on isolation stands

I'm not too familiar with nearfield monitors... I did some research, oh, well over eight years ago now, and all I could afford at the time was a pair of Tannoy Reveal actives, which only go down to 60Hz, which, as I realise now, is pretty sad. I think  that, when the time comes that I am able to get a "studio" room back, I need to ditch the Reveals and get something that goes below 50Hz.

I googled your monitors and the A7x's go down to 42Hz and the 20/20's down to 35Hz.

My question to you would be, if you could only afford the one pair, which one would it be?

    cheers
