Tears out of the rain -updated July 9

http://sclk.co/s6u9ma (updated july 9 per comments to date)
Here I am trying to get away from "over producing" and get back to simple, singer/songwriter/unplugged style. Sort of a "Mic and Me" approach.
I had been hiding my faults in layers of tracks.
I found it much harder than I thought and thank so many from this forum for a ton of great suggestions.

I had to play this song twice because the overall volume level was low, but that's not a criticism.  I like to hear dynamics in a song, and with the volume turned up, I heard plenty.  I like this song and your lyrics very much.  I think I heard some doubling on the vocal, and it sounded very well blended.  The contrasting textures of your voice and guitar sounded good together, though the guitar(s) is pretty bright.  It must be those new strings.  All in all, the chord progression and melody made for a fun listen, and I may not be through, yet.

    All the best,

Sometimes I agree with Lynn, sometimes I don't. In this one, I don't . I think its a great song. But... while the guitar was rich full and warm, waaaay off in the distance were the vocals. Its like the guitar player was beside me, and you were some dude in the back singing along . I would prefer that the doubling be taken away, and hearing just a solo of the vox. Give the them back some low end as well. You cut way too high and too much IMO.

Nice crisp song for sure. Nice guitar playing but could be placed a bit back in the mix. As for the vocals, they seemed to go back and forth in tone, like you might have been bobbing back and forth in front of the mike. The vocals were good and clear, but need just some kind of fix to them. Also, sounds like maybe its a reverb problem. Nice lyrics and overall a really nice song. Just clean it up a bit and you'll have a winner. Peace be with you. Blessings, John

    Hi M_Glenn_M
Just had a listen to this one and "Personal Manager" and first may I say that you play a mean guitar. That said, when I listen to both of these the first thing that came to my head was "it sounds really hot"...not loud, but more like pushed tubes. I wonder if you're doing a fair amount of mid-scoops and hitting your comps and limiters pretty hard? Or pushing an EQ boost (or corresponding set of cuts) at 3 or 4 khz into a compressor?
Alternately (or perhaps in addition to), are you mixing on studio monitors? I ask because it's more noticable on my Focals than on my "B" speakers which are some consumer logitech things. Something else that can cause this sound is pushing inexpensive mic's pretty hard. In any case, it's not terrible by any means, but to my ears it's a bit brittle and pushed sounding. Apologies for possibly being a bit vague...just not quite sure what it is that's standing out to me..

Love the song, I would like to hear a version with your vocals have just a hint of delay and reverb for the fx

Sounds like a good tune and the guitar playing is very proficient.  However the Vocal and guitar occupy completely different spaces and proximities which unfortunately are a distraction for me.

    Thanks for sharing.

Wow Great comments! Thanks so much. So great when I can get some pro feedback.
Mixed on KRK Rokit 6's with 10" sub.
Recorded with the stereo onboard mics of the BR800, giving the different space.
I guess I was overly concerned with frequency juggling and have separated vox, guitar and bass too much.
    Thanks so much guys.
Confusing that Lynn felt the levels were quiet and Montezuma found it loud.
Razor you are right, I do habitually boost 3K on the vox and maybe it's not needed and may help blend.
I have been doubling the vox, mostly to help fatten them up. I always feel insecure on them.

    Added some LF to vox,
Took off some HF on the guitars
Took off some reverb on vox
    dialed back the doubling levels
Hopefully this helps blend and brings the vox forward a bit?
    Thanks Guys.

That was much better and sounded great to me. Seems a bit long, but mostlikely because a nice lead guitar riff might break it up after the third verse and then lead back into the chours again. Just a thought! Nice rework. Enjoyed. Peace be with you. Blessings. John

    Thanks John.
Good call. 4 min is a bit long and a solo instead of the last verse would work.
I've been thinking I do need some variety in my arrangements.
