"Tech and Music" E-zine is off to a great start.  Just wanted to add my thanks to Anderton and everyone else involved in publishing this excellent and informative E-zine.

Since Craig gave his blessing to share, and some people have an "Issuu" with the host , here's a link where you can download the PDF directly:

https://app.box.com/v/tech-plus-music

It might be a good idea to make a sticky for Tech+Music or include a PDF download link in addition to the Issuu link in the release thread.

Thanks a million for the direct download link so happy not to have  more junk emails coming in.

Really excellent job on the content Craig. A very welcome return!

Woeful decision by Cakewalk on the hosting platform - and they pay for the privelidge of annoying their customers by having them sign up to yet another account to recieve unwanted advertising?

Problem solved by Cakewalk community providing the very obvious solution of direct pdf download:) Nicely done telecharge.

Very cool, Craig. Thanks yet again.

“Beer is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy” is attributed to Benjamin Franklin perhaps in error, but the thought remains a worthy sentiment nonetheless.

You don't have to receive advertising. If you want, you can make up an email address - they don't ask for two-step verification or anything. And I'm not sure it's about spamming anyway. The site has banners and sells ads; I think they're trying to be more of a publication-based community, and it wouldn't surprise me that if you got emails, they would be along the lines of "Since you like Tech+Music, we're happy to say that Sound on Sound is now available on issuu" (which it is).

I've been browsing the site, and frankly, it's pretty cool. I can't help but think others will find Tech+Music when browsing the site...and they wouldn't find out about us otherwise.

In my ideal world this will develop into an actual magazine to which musicians of all kinds want to read. The more readers we have, the easier it is to make that happen

The first 3 books in "The Musician's Guide to Home Recording" series are available from Hal Leonard and http://www.reverb.com. Listen to my music on http://www.YouTube.com/thecraiganderton, and visit http://www.craiganderton.com. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

We're hosting on issuu.com because they make it very easy for people to view the publication on any device - desktop, tablet, smartphone, as well as offering the ability to download and print yourself. Based on our current stats, almost 30% of our readers are reading on a tablet or smartphone.

There are a couple of secondary benefits: they make it easy for readers to share publications and articles that they like, and we get analytics to learn more about what people are actually reading and what they aren't - so that we can continue to make it a better publication for everyone. For example - the "You Mix, We Master" sound examples seemed to chart high with readers, which tells me folks are interested in this concept, but probably also interested in hearing more before/after sound examples in general. This is good feedback for us.

We pay for the service, which means you should not be bombarded by ads on every page. There are no weird strings or favors or subsidized whatevers as alluded to on the forum.

Feel free to PM me if you have other questions, thanks!

For the record...Alex wanted to make it a sticky when it was introduced, but I wanted to see if there was enough interest to keep popping it to the top of the main page. There was, and now it's a sticky

Excellent reading and really good job, as always. Thanks Craig. It was an easy download to my Ipad and there is also plenty of guitar and recording magazines on Issuu so that is cool too, no complaints.

I'd bet you wouldn't have any push back from the user base if you offered it there and with a direct link to download on the Rolling updates page (as was done in the past).

Providing an email address means that this 3rd party company will send you emails and ads.  (Yes, I already got an email from them - just because I wanted to download it).

Your statistics are not going to track those of us that might read the thing on a table (but in PDF format).  You would only get the statistic that I download a PDF.  And if only 30% are reading it on a tablet or smart phone from the website, that should tell you that the other 70% are NOT and therefore the value this company is providing you is minimal.  I'm unaware of any Tablet or Smart Phone that can't open a PDF.  And at 6.2 megs (for what is a fairly large issue), most people can handle that in a downloadable format.

Not suggesting you need to cease business with the company, but a few of us have already voiced the opinion we would prefer a direct download option as well that does not require any type of email sign up or entering such information to get the download link.

+1

Seems odd that it's mentioned on the What's New/Current Updates page, but there's no link to this thread, Issuu, or a direct download.

EDIT: Oops, I see there is an Issuu link if you scroll down a bit.

Great initiative. I loved the eZines, but this is even better!

Any chance that (some of) the information for the updates 1-4 in 2017 would get a special issue Tech Music?
I'd love that.

current gear: Sonar Platinum; Korg Kronos 88; Akai Advance 61; Roland Octa-Capture; Kurzweil K2500R; Korg Pa2X; Edirol-PCR800; Reason 10; way too many wonderful VST's.

It's challenging enough for me to come up with one issue a month, let alone a special issue! However, I really like your idea and it dovetails with people who have asked for articles examining a feature in depth. So I think it would make sense to re-visit some of the 2017.01-04 updates, as well as earlier ones, in future articles.

That's great to hear. Very much looking forward to that!

Ok thanks for elaborating.

No problem.

And for the record I've already received more than one email in a single week from them just because I wanted to download the thing and giving my email address was the option to do so.

Go to your account settings and uncheck all the checkboxes dealing with communication.
I did that the moment I signed up and have not received a single e-mail from them.

Cheers

I found once I follow the link to the site and select full screen view, their is a download arrow in the top left corner. Select that and I get a PDF downloaded to my iPad without signing in at all.

Great job on the mag Craig.
