Technology is leaving me behind Please help
Hi all, I now have a problem , I am on win XP and would like to upgrade to win 7. The problem is that I have a yamaha 01x control surface which has drivers up to win XP but no higher (discontinued). If I upgrade to win 7 so I remain supported by Cakewalk and move up to X2 my yamaha control surface won't work. I called yamaha, no help there. I also searched the net for drivers and none were found. I don't have the money to replace my control surface, so It looks like I'm stuck. I know that there are others here on this forum that also has a yamaha 01x, have you found a workaround? Anybody, somebody Please Help. Thank you, mpop Music is Life

As far as I've found out the last drivers ver 1.63 I think. Will work with Windows 7 32 bit only. 64 bit is a complete no go. I did try with a spare drive and that seems to be the case. but it was only a quick try and I haven't pursued on x1. So I now have the same problem as you. and not really sure what to do, already downloaded x2 so must decide soon.

you can still use it as a control surface via the midi ports if you wanted ? it sends / gets midi CC's etc? and just get a new sound card.. as for xp.. it's stops being supported june 2014 IRC. it's a bit long in the tooth now, so I'd just put that surface on ebay etc.. get new stuff. or you can still use it for live stuff etc?

Thanks royarn If you got it to work with win 7 even at 32 bit that would work.. I will try your suggestion and use a spare drive, load win 7 then x1 then mLan driver cross fingers eyes toes and whatever else.. I will post results this weekend. once again thanks, mpop

Yes it works fine with mLAN, I've been at it all day, what with downloading and installing windows 7, and X2, not had time to experiment much with X2 other than making sure everything is working with my hardware, tomorrow is playtime. royarn

Unless you are spending money continuously ..... you will end up against a brick wall eventually. I'm in a similar situation.... I built a custom DAW a few years back based on XP pro/32 And all the new stuff coming out now is 64 bit so I have to look carefully before buying anything and when I have a hardware failure.....very likely it will be time to modernize. For me, that involves buying lots of software that I currently have in 32 bit.... so I plan to keep running until I am forced to upgrade.

This is the nature of the beast. If you don't keep some what up to date, then you will be left behind. Your best bet is to keep up to date with your hardware and software. That is the way to avoid it Cj

I've been running everything in 32 bit. I tried 64 bit on X1 and I was a fish out of water , nothing Seemed to work right and all the forum threads seemed to have Me in over my head so I went back to the 32 bit environment and am in 32 bit with X2 also. Something about spending more money? Really what am I missing in 32 bit over working in 64?

K I can see needing more ram as my projects get Bigger , though I will use things like zeta , rapture And ez drummer , stutter edit and more in projects I have going. Is there a sound quality difference between The two environments? having mainly been in 32 bit I can't really compare. any more thoughts of short comings or does anyone think I really should be in 64. I am just doing home studio work though my intent is pro quality sound as possible.

I am in the same boat. After spending untold $ amounts on software, sound libraries, plugins, hardware, mulitple networked computers, convertors, etc., it's over for me. At my age, I could not even consider moving to a different os let alone installation time and learning curves. I sure hope that if my ADK core i7 main machine quits, I will be able to find a used replacement. I called ADK a couple months back just to see if I could still order a XP machine for a spare and I was told nope. So, if someone is going to invest in expensive sound libraries, or lot of hardware, be wary. You may find that upgrade costs across your entire system, whenever a part of your system quits or they kick you to the curb by changes in os's, or what is considered upgades, prohibitive.

i runned a combination of Yammi's i88x and o1x for many years and i liked it very much. The benefits of Win7 and 64bit with x1 prod. - i'm a little bit in doubt wether it has better audio quality - let me decide last year to change horses to a new machine and a new interface (firewire/focusrite). I'm aware that firewire could be oldfashioned, but - for me - it works really stable with the cakewalk DAW. CJay said "it's the nature of the beast" and he's right. It's like buying a car: it's used/old at that moment when you leave the car dealer's property ;-) cheers Michael

I'm also looking at upgrading my OS to Windows 7. I've wanted the benefits of 64bit OS, but now Sonar X2 will make the upgrade of the OS inevitable, so 64bit seems like a no brainer. I seriously doubt there are any sound quality benefits using 64bit OS, but the greatly expanded memory addressing is a huge point for me, since my projects usually contain a lot of big Toontrack and Kontakt sample sets.

I thinks the main point is that if you have a complete package system, OS-Hardware-Software, and it all works perfectly for you, Don't go trying to upgrade any one part of it piecemeal. Don't expect 2003 technology to work with 2012 technology. It's all or nothing. Use what you have until it no longer get's the job done and then replace it.
