Thanks to this list I checked out while drinking my morning tea, I ended up testing IK's Stealth on a mix I just finished. Wow. That thing is good.

Cakewalk's Concrete Limiter is really under appreciated. I have the Waves L1 and a couple others but I generally stick with the Cakewalk PC unit now.

rain, i only use the L2 for mastering. almost never in my mixing, it's just overkill for that. sometimes i'll run stuff thru the L1 and not even kiss the meter, just for the way it colors it.

I must not be the gear slutz type...I really like Boz's The Wall. And I love IK Stealth.

The Gearslutz community seems to consist of 20% who really know their stuff, and 80% who happily regurgitate whatever they've previously read on Gearslutz. No surprise that there's a consensus. There's not that a single one of those plugins that doesn't deserve to be on the list. But there are easily a dozen more that are in the same league but just haven't reached critical buzz-mass on GS. If you're currently using something that's not on that list, don't worry about it.

i do not trust anything i read on gear slutz. i almost never hear really decent recordings there either. and then, when i do hear one, it's REALLY good! i always figure, if somebody's spouting a bunch of bs about gear, ok,, let's hear their recordings. bottom line.

I never spout about what I have. List it? Yeah. NP. I own 5 of those: Fab Pro-L IKM Stealth Ozone 7 Elephant (not the upgrade though, I'm still on 3.11) Waves (actually all of their limiters in Mercury) And I own two of the honorable mentions: Slate FG-X PSP Xenon So I'm batting 500 as the saying goes.

A few years ago, Charlie Clouser (NIN, White Zombie, SAW movies, AHS) took part in a discussion and answered tons of questions. That's the most valuable/interesting info I've ever read on GS.

i mostly read the mastering and acoustics forums, and lately the live sound forum. Those three have the best signal-to-noise ratio. But there is no doorman to screen participants, so in the mastering forum you'll often get the self-styled experts and teenage "producers" spouting ignorant nonsense. However, on that forum the trolls are often smacked down with a "quiet, the grownups are talking" response that always makes me smile.

The only one listed I use is the L2. And that only in Logic where I can't use Cakewalk's Concrete Limiter. Which can hold up its head in any company in my opinion. The CA-2A is available as an AU plugin and is as excellent in that format as it is in Sonar. It's a pity Cake don't do an AU version of a few more of their effects, they're generally excellent compared with the ones that get bundled with many DAWs.

As for gearslutz, it's a place I only visit rarely and then only for as long as I can tolerate the very poor signal to noise ration from many posters. Far too much of some Forum God declaring "X is rubbish" or "X is awesome dude" followed by their true believers endlessly repeating the same and attacking anyone who even slightly disagrees with the divine viewpoint for me.
