Yes, he's been a huge help to me with his SoS SONAR technique articles since I started using SONAR 4. His contributions to SoS were a big motivator for me in subscribing to SoS. Once Gibson purchased Cakewalk, his technical support effort increased exponentially. With his weekly tips, Forum responses and his ProChannel FX Rack, Rapture Presets, and other SONAR enhancements.

Craig's a big reason I'm in this game at all.

Back when electronic music was an emerging and particularly arcane scene, Craig hooked up with others who were into it and started editing a magazine called Polyphony. It united the disparate enthusiasts around the world and for the first time there was a medium for sharing information about electronic music. I was a charter subscriber who devoured every issue. Modern-day vintage synth practitioners can still buy some of the surviving back issues. Kind of wish I'd saved mine.

Polyphony was mostly hardware-oriented, and mostly addressed DIY techniques and kit assembly. But in 1988 there appeared a review of a new MIDI sequencer called Cakewalk. I remember it as having Craig's byline, and although he did write most of the articles, he's never confirmed that he was the one who wrote that particular piece. He simply may not remember, given his prolific output over the years. But that half-page review changed my life.

I really wanted a software MIDI sequencer, but Cakewalk cost something like $300, a fortune to me at the time. All I could do was read and re-read the review and drool. Then a couple months later I went on a business trip to Los Angeles to train a customer to use a piece of software I'd written. The customer was a small (5 locations) chain of music stores called Guitar Center. The IT guy (they had just one IT person then) and I hit it off immediately, as he was the only person I'd ever met in person who, like me, was into both computers and music. He offered to get me anything I wanted at cost, and I could think of only one thing that I desperately wanted.

Next day I spent the entire return trip studying the manual, reading it twice through on the plane. After a quick stop to pick up a MIDI interface, I arrived at home mid-day when the wife was at work and the kids were in school. I almost didn't notice when they came home.

So yeh, I gotta add my thanks to these Craig accolades.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Like Bitflipper I've been with CA since Polyphony days.  I started my serious home recording with a copy of "Home Recording Handbook", which I still have.  Though I have absolutely NO skill as an electrician I bought a copy of "Electronic Projects for Musicians" and built a few kits.  To my utter astonishment they worked.

And, AdamGrossmanlg, you are a true gentleman for your post.  My hat is off to you.

Thanks Craig for all that you have done and continue to do for Electronic Music (the genre, not the magazine - wait ... yes ... the magazine too!) Like others here, I've been a follower since the Polyphony days. Back when I was starting out in electronics, those kits of yours gave me motivation to learn how audio circuits worked - and it all took off from there. Thank you for that!

Your post is a very pleasant surprise, and I greatly appreciate your saying that. True, we didn't always see eye to eye but I was never angry with you, only very frustrated that you seemed to constantly encounter these mysterious and intractable problems and while sometimes I could help, sometimes it seemed there was nothing I could do.

But again, your sentiments are very much appreciated and mean a lot to me.

I really hope you can find a great DAW that suits your purposes to a "T" and that you can make some GREAT music!!

Oh, and thank you for mentioning "Daughter." It's a true story. I've already picked up the pace of releasing music on my YouTube channel, in case you're interested here's the latest...it's not public yet, so it's a preview.

Craig was one of the few bright spots to the Gibson acquisition.  Losing Seth and Brandon after the Roland sale was huge but having someone like Craig with his background and experience stepping not only boosted our community, it got us thinking differently trying new ideas.  From the webinars he did to the tips on the forum, he really went above and beyond.

While Ive only been at this DAW recording and using Sonar for about 5 years now, what I especially appreciated,  aside from his wealth of knowledge, is Craig's ability to relate to the simple man, and bring things way over my head down to my level of understanding. As well as his better have a "Snickers" bar approach in dealing with unruly posters, until that fails, his ability to put them in their place eloquently. LOL.

Thankfully there is still Harmony Central, and website, and still hope (I think) for Sonar's resurrection in some capacity, even if just maintaining its operation as is now. (I be willing to subscribe to that).

Cheers

In the early 90's, the keyboard on my Commodore 128 finally cratered. With it went my Dr. T's music software and all my projects.

With tears in my eyes, I found myself standing in GC to buy some PC midi software and interface. It was a toss up between CW and Steinberg. Cubase appeared to have more features but it was about $30 more. But I had read an article from Craig about CW. I bought CW.

Damn you Craig Anderton!

Having Craig Anderton's heavy involvement on the site the past few years has been great.  This guy is special.  BITD I got his electronics projects out of Guitar Player (or somewhere) and managed to cobble up some screamers.  I read his book on Mixing and Mastering with SONAR 3 and really enjoyed it - especially the part where different producers used the same tracks to build wildly different songs.  Lately he's led the way showing us how to plumb the depths of SONAR to achieve all kinds of cool fun and artistic ends.  My admiration and thanks to Craig and his brilliant work.
