When I was still getting over my bout with throat cancer and finally was able to talk again. I gave singing a try since I hadn't been able to for 5 years. It was tough but with encouragement from some wonderful people in the forums I gave it a try. It was very very frustrating cuz I would lose my voice after about 15 min. of trying to lay a vocal track down. Over about 2 weeks time I actually managed to get 3 tunes I think it was. That's when Pistol Pete appeared  laughed and made fun of how my voice sounded. He really put down what I had recorded. That the kind of guy he is.

P.S. you'll never see or hear anything he has ever played or recorded

Back when I first joined here, it was the first forum I had been a part of. I started with Guitar Tracks and thats where Pete showed up. Having not been exposed to a troll before, he got me good po'd. I called in some chits and actually found out who and where he was. If not for a fellow forum member who has become a good friend, I was going to show up on his doorstep and "deal" with him on my terms. Turns out he's just a sad individual, and not worth the effort. That's when some others and myself began "kicking the stump" as it became known. I'm not proud of those times. The guy is just a bottom feeder in the world and not worth the time I spent typing this.

Actually that reviewing style would get someone a job with the NME.

A bit unecessary on a peer to peer forum maybe, where I think reviews should also contain encouragement.  You can be honest and give an opinion without a need to be rude and upsetting.

I'm not joining in a bashing fest here as I don't really know the bloke and don't have first-hand experience of his verbals being directed at me, but I can clearly see where some of the comments cited here would have been hurtful had they been.

"pistol pete"I thought you did a great job. (I don't really think it sounds like David Gilmour's solo work at all though.) The associated video was a nice touch. What I thought was good about the video is that it didn't show irrelevant random pictures but some basic scenery to set the mood of the song.

On September 29, 2017 Mr. Ed Kokol (Bapu) (aka "Just Another Bloke" & BeyondmyDaw.com) soiled yet another thread of mine -- this time the thread featuring my song "Stories To Tell".  At that time, after practically begging him to leave me alone I finally posted my thoughts on his musical abilities, such as they are. (I don't post in his threads or those of his jesters.) To whit:

Mr. Ed!

I'm posting this in the last post I made so as not to bump up the thread.  I have no interest in you Mr. Ed other than keeping you out of my threads.

I don't comment in your threads and up until now I've never commented on your abilities.  But since you keep pushing me so hey, let's play:

1)  Your bass playing is banal.  I'm not a bass player per se but my lines are more interesting than yours. You're average at best. When I first heard your playing I could tell that you don't think like a bassist. (Case in point:  the recent song "Believe" by smallstonesfan in which you played bass.  The bass adds nothing  -- the tone sounds like wood blocks and there is absolutely no fluidity or FUNKINESS in the playing.  That song cries out for funk and you deliver nothing.).  (You wouldn't stand a chance as a session musician here in nyc or Nashville -- in fact, the thought is laughable).  In your hands ALEMBIC=ANEMIC;

2)  Your singing sounds like every geezer who has tried to sing rock or pop but can't.  Barely in tune with a croaking overlay (even with your lathering on of autotune).  No range, unpleasant tone and very little phrasing ability --  a bad voice. Below average at best.  (I've made a living singing standards & top40 in hotels, lounges, etc. for years (playing guitar & piano.) so I have some critical judgment on this.

3)  Your songs are unmelodic and average.  Your lyrics never make use of metaphor, inner rhyme or anything that is beyond the ability of a kid learning to write and play guitar.  Same with your melodies.  Average at the very best.

4)  Do you honestly think that so many people on this forum have you play or sing on their music because you're the best for the job?  Of course not.  People who've been around for a bit quickly realize that you and your CH buds pretty much control the songs (and CH) forums by virtue of constant posting.  If someone -- like me -- fails to kiss up to you (to get your obligatory Noice! comment -- big deal) then they're not on the team.  Once on the team -- like getting you to plunk some low notes for them -- they're assured that they'll receive good comments and lots of views from you, your buds and most of the newbies who quickly get the gist.

I've asked you many times to stay out of my threads.  You refuse.  I only post in threads where there is something I like.  I don't post snark.

Okay, I'm sick of punching down...

ON A LATER NOTE:  Not one person -- not even Dymme, Steryl69 or Synkophant -- came to the defense of Mr. Ed -- no one called me out on this post & not one person argued that Mr. Ed was misrepresented in this post.

Hey, Pete, even if you had given this song a "bad" review I doubt I'd respond with vitriol. (Now, this is a little different than a whole bunch of clique posters piling on with parroted crits -- to that I might - (and once I did) - respond.)

I've spent a lot of years getting rejected by the music industry (which puts me in good company here, I'm sure :) ) so hopefully I've learned to better handle the sting of criticism - even if I don't like the way the critic phrases it.

It's pretty funny to see the whining on this forum about your posts -- gotta man up guys and gals -- but of course, there are a couple of "you scratch mine, I'll scratch yours" cliques here that might not like any outsider.

After all, on this forum -- and other song posting forums -- we are not posting songs to the general listening public.  We're presenting our work to others who are also looking for some recognition.  Can anyone honestly deny -- contrary to how nice people are in their posts -- that in some sense, we see each other as "competitors" -- competing for recognition if nothing else (flame away :)

I live in NYC -- I know many people in various artistic endeavors including some successful people.  Every one of them - actors, musicians, writers, etc. have deep seated insecurities (me included) and given the opportunity they are relentless in their cattiness and backstabbing about their peers (I try not to).  If that also might happen on an internet forum (potential access to m/billions of people), so what?

The paragraph above is not directed at Pete but to all of us in this forum.

So, Pete, although you went "easy" on me on this song -- if you don't like something else I do, I'll try not to be too upset :)

(Oh, and I think that many times your crits -- though prickly -- are worth noting.)

I think it behoves all of us (myself doubly included) to recall that a song IS the person. It comes from our heart and soul. When we needlessly bash it, or give non-constructive negative criticism, we are indeed criticising the person who created it. This thread was not started to bash on you Pete, but to get you to pay attention, if that is even possible. I do not dislike you Pete. I have often actually found you to have valid points.
