Thank you BandLab for the update to the PRV!!!!
I just wanted to thank Meng and BandLab for improving the PRV!!! I installed the new Cakewalk by BandLab and I like what I see. I especially like that I have no problem seeing PRV vertical grid lines of less than 1/4 note. With Sonar Platinum I was having a hard time seeing grid lines of 1/8,1/16 etc. and that was making it kind of challenging to correct timing on some of my recordings. I look forward with excitement to what BandLab does next! I'm putting a Tip in the Tip jar for a Cakewalk T-shirt and Coffee mug in appreciation!!! Thanks BandLab!!!!

What version of SPlat had you been on previously? Are you saying that there have been coding changes since 2017.10 (23.10.0)?

I have long ached from spending too many hours staring at the white screen. The new darker screen is far easier on my eyes!

There are. The most visible (not including theme changes) is the "Replace From Track Template" feature.

Ah...I had failed to fully read the first message of the "free" thread. I was expecting that they had merely made the existing code free.

I also greatly prefer the dark theme. The white PRV always felt odd to me in the Tungsten theme since the other views were dark. For those who prefer the lighter look just switch back to Mercury.

From another post (i think it was from scook?) they can rename the tungsten theme from Splat and copy it to the new themes folder. Then select it. I am grateful for the change to dark. Thanks Noel!

So, what do you change in Theme Editor to get the dark PRV background? I'm using a edited "Mercsten" "Tuncury" combination theme - but I don't see anything obvious under the piano roll view settings.

Need to wait for the new theme editor or
you could try copying the new tungsten into the old user theme folder (make sure to change the extension to .sth), open it in the old theme editor and import the changes from "Mercsten" or "Tuncury", save and copy the new theme to the new user theme folder. I got this part wrong. Instead of copying Tungsten, the CbB resource files need to be in the Platinum program folder so the editor can pick up the new Mercury theme. Then editing Tungsten will show the new changed from Mercury which could be applied to the user themes. Any one trying this may want to save copies of the Platinum resource files so they can be restored easily. Personally, I have not tried this and would rather wait for the updated theme editor.

I also prefer the dark Piano Roll and so I totally agree with the OP. Having a dark theme is easier on your eyes.

Total support for the dark PRV. What I've wanted for a long time, so it's much appreciated.
A deep chesty bawl echoes from rimrock to rimrock, rolls down the mountain, and fades into the far blackness of the night. It is an outburst of wild defiant sorrow, and of contempt for all the adversities of the world. - Aldo Leopold

Harumph. I liked the white background. The stark contrast helped my waning eyesight. I've switched to the mercury theme to get the old PRV back.

If you prefer tungsten. Copy and rename the tungsten in Splat, then copy the file to the CbB thenes folder and select it. I'm told this works...

That's way too much effort. There will be loads of differences (besides the PRV background) between the stock tungsten and mercsten/tuncury Need to wait for the new theme editor I think I'll just do this. ;) So, when we click "edit" in preferences - by where we choose themes, that opens the "old" theme editor?

Looks that way to me. The header reads SONAR Theme Editor and it defaults to the wrong user theme folder. To use it now instead of copying Tungsten it requires placing a copy of the CbB resources files into Platinum (I got it backwards yesterday). Save the Platinum ones if planning to run Platinum in the future. After that it may not be as bad as I first thought, is should be possible to move the changes from Tungsten to the old user theme. IOW, it should act like the new editor except for the default user folder.

I do like the dark PRV! So much easier on my old peepers.
I am actually surprised at how many people are complaining about it.

Hi Steve, is should be possible to move the changes from Tungsten to the old user theme. But, we have to find out where the PRV background setting is. It's not in the "piano roll view" section. It should be a simple setting, that is white, and we change it to grey...

Sorry for the late reply. This doesn't change anything. I closed down Cakewalk and reopened it, just to be sure - but it's still white. Some of these settings in Colors -> etc etc still work - but a lot of them don't do anything.

@jbraner idk. Running the 2017.10 build, have not installed the CbB version. Changed the background color quite some time ago (from default 'white' to more of a tan/parchment color) and it's been saved into a project template. > just ran a super quick check on a laptop and it changes the bg color for the "white keys". my tweak happened to be in the same 'color' family and worked out ok. ... btw, share your assessment of the timeline selection "feature". It appears to be a "side effect" of the ripple edit release. Some product manager must have been too focused on "optimizing the workflow" for the new feature to the exclusion of "what most users do most of the time". I would guess most users have many reasons for selecting regions on the timeline without ever intending to ripple edit anything. Would be nice if they fixed that. ... also recall having a PC preset somewhere that did -not- include the QuadEQ. It went missing after some sort of crash and had to use "Insert Module" to get it back into the PC. The QuadEQ -was- displayed in the list of available modules. Think I might have saved that as a "blank PC" preset on one of the workstations. will pm you if I find it and it manages to preserve the completely empty state. my project/PC templates have everything removed and the QuadEQ collapsed/turned off. Which I'm sure is completely obvious ...
