Thank you veterans

If you are serving now or have in the past, I'd like to say thank you. I'll never forget.

Enlisted '69. Army Security Agency. Service connected disability (which it turns out, I'm lucky to have; it's the only health "insurance" I have; Medicare next August!). Would do it again.

Let's remember, and thank, ALL of our vets!

A salute to all: past, present and future!

There's an armory/academy across the street from me. The bay doors of the hall where the parade congregates literally open up directly in front of my window so I got to watch them leave and come back.

I like the drums and pipes.

Before this place/town I lived down the road from one of the major air bases. Traffic was regularly jammed up with processions for dead soldiers coming back from Afghanistan (Highway of Heroes).

Pretty sad stuff.

I feel bad for those kids and hate the sh*tbirds who irresponsibly send them off to get mucked up or worse over stupid crap.

Our vets here in Canada apparently need a buttload of help right now too. Lots of increasing disrespect and neglect from the agencies that are supposed to help them.

They did their part... the sh*tbirds reneged on theirs. Pricks.

Thanks to all who served.  Although I had been accepted to go to Annapolis, I had to stay near my disabled father and wound up working for a defense contractor (at the wonderful age of 19 I might add!).  I helped improve some of the toys used by the boys though.

Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!

thanks to all those who have had the courage to serve! is veterans day deliberately on armistice day?

that first world war is still an important part of my country's history. over forty per cent of men of military age served! i might be wrong but i think because of time zones we entered the war before britain declared it :)

Brother Bill, all the time I knew you, I had no idea you were a Chief master sarge of the AF.  I got out as an e5, at time Sr airman. I'll always appreciate the fact that it's the senior enlisted guys that really hold things together. You being a retired CMsgt enforces what I already knew about you. You're one hell of a man.

And coming from a foreigner that saw a fascist regime and then a coup take place ... yeah ... thanks ... America is awesome! The music and arts could use some more appreciation and help, but still great!

Thanks Grant! My first 2 years was in POL during Viet Nam. I spent those 2 years 12 on 12 off on the flightline of Andersen AFB refueling fighters and bombers. I cross trained into the USAF Band as a guitarist and spent the next 20 years there. The difference was enormous.

Salute and thanks for all that. I certainly know what those 12 hours no days off feels like, but only for mobility and a few minor incursions. We were only just playing war for the most part was 3 shifts. I can only imagine what it was like for real. Not sure what POL is. When I was in it was reduced to 3 divisions. MAC, SAC and TAC. Military airlift command, Strategic air command and Tactical air command. Last I heard they reduced it to two.  I only got to fly on my Starlifter once. First time I got to stand in the fight deck as they were flying real low dropping pallets.
Cargo compartment, hydraulic systems so loud hearing protection is required, and red seats on the way back was not exactly first class accommodations. The box lunches sure made up for it though. And the K-rations..Mmm all this talk has me hungry for K-rations,...and becon of course.

Cryogenics was my main assignment at first. Working with liquid oxygen, storage/dispense etc. In those days POL was cryogenics, jet fuels, and bulk storage. We were short handed,as always, so I also refueled the bombers. Eventually I had to work in the jungle taking fuel from Navy tankers then pumping that to the flight line. 12 on 12 off is tuff! The weird thing is I loved those jobs!. I was nearly killed only twice but when you're 19 nothing phases you!
In those days  Cryogenics, fuels, and bulk storage were the same job. Now they are 3 different career fields and POL is basically refueling aircraft. The Air Force is much different now than it was then.
