Thanks to those that suggested getting Kontakt/Komplete

Finally got a chance to do some serious play with the Komplete products and, unlike Eastwest's Play, they Just Work(tm). They don't give me any crap, don't seem to crash, don't sometimes screw up bounces, and so on. They seem to do their job, without complaint or theatrics. Also I quite like Massive, which I didn't expect, I bought it for the sampled instruments, not the synths, but Massive is quite good.

Now I think I'll need to sniff around and find a good orchestral sample set for it.

I really believe that if you have Komplete and Sonar X3b, you have 95% of everything you will ever need and it just works.

For me Jamstix is the other 5%.

Am hoping for a sale soon. Would like kontakt at the very least. Komplete looks great though I must admit.

Could be awhile before the next sale - I got in on the last one for Kontakt a few months ago. Kontakt alone is worth it if it's on sale, otherwise it would would make much more sense (economically) to go with Komplete as the difference in price is not all that much and Komplete comes with many, many libraries. I don't see much reason for the $999 Komplete Ultimate version, though - that's just way more material than I could possible use.

I'd give Komplete a thinking about. As you know from my other thread, I was split: $250 for Kontakt or $500 for Komplete. No regrets on the Komplete purchase. So far things I really like over Kontakt:

--The pianos. Man they did a good job on those. Great sound and easy to control. I'm a real fanboy of the Bosendorfer, and they've got that one nicely sampled in there (called the Vienna Grand, probably to not have to pay name rights). That was one thing I wanted since I use the Bosendorfer from Goliath a lot. No problem here. They also have a hell of a good Bechstein (Berlin Grand). Their giant upright sound neat too though I've played with it little.

--Massive. It is a surprisingly good Wavetable synth. I didn't think I'd really want it having Z3TA 2 and Rapture already but I like it a lot. Good presets grouped with a good browser, and easy controls. It is easier than Z3TA to find a sound I want and tweak it a bit. Not that I dislike Z3TA now, I just find Massive real nice and a nice sound.

--Session Drummer. I am liking the drum sounds and, being in Kontakt, I can edit them in to the kit I've made for myself at will.

Those have made me happy enough with the extra money I spent. I'm sure I'll enjoy other parts of it, but those have made it worth it enough.

If you're into pianos, you'll want to discover Sampletekk. Piano heaven, and cheap. Check out the uprights, if you feel you're already covered for concert grands.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Thanks guys, I am a pianist so always interested in those! Would love a real bosendorfer :-)
I do need an upright tho, they have a warmth and closeness I really like.
