That slow-down, pitch-drop effect...?

You know, the one that sounds like a record player (eh?) being turned off, what happens to the audio. Used in Ke$ha's Tik-Tok.
How to get it, anyone know?

to do it in sonar with its included tools you can do one of these 2 things, ASSuming you have a sound card with cue mix like Motu that is able to record what you hear.

One way is to use the scrub tool and slide it over the track and record it as your doing it. The speed of your drag determines the amount of drop

Another way is to use v-vocal and record while your turning the pitch down at a speed that fits the song

Check out NI's "The Finger" FX addon for Kore/Kore2.  It has that exact effect and a ton more.

You can also do it in Sonar various ways (time stretch, for example), AudioSnap can probably do it (though I haven't tried).   And there are some other plugins out there (3rd party like NI) that can do it.

One cool plugin that comes to mind that might be what you want (it changes pitch but not length)  is here:

Thanks, CJ! I was trying to do it with a vocal sample loaded into Kontakt and the pitch wheel, but it didn't come out quite that way.
I don't think my Delta 66 has that cue-mix thing, but I could record from outputs 1/2 into inputs 3/4 and do it that way (added latency not an issue here).
I will try V-Vocal. IIRC I can also pull the audio into descending-pitch shape that way? Time-stretch adjustment would take care of the slowing down, too, now that I think of it.
When you say "record" in V-vocal, do you mean record automation?

    +1. Tapestop.

Turntablist Pro will also do it, but Tapestop is made for just this occasion.

Of course, doing it manually isn't hard.

If you can break down the process of recording the scrub tool, that would be really helpful.  I have not been able to figure out a way without using 2 computers.  I'm going to try turntablist right now.  Thanks guys!

I like tapestop!  It is very easy to automate.  You can also do lots of fun stuff by stacking FX sends after it.  I would still like to be able to easily record the scrub tool for other fun stuff.

    Thanks again!

Did you try?  Now try tapestop and tell me which one you like better.

Also, by doing some automation+printing+reverse I was able to use the tapestop effect at the beginning of a song.

Holy cow I'm loving these recommendations.  Mad shifter does some sick vocal and 80's keyboard-type FX.  Keep em coming!

Always makes me feel good when I help some other folks too along the way.
The project I was trying the effect on got put on hold, so haven't messed with any of these yet, but I'll report back. Going to check 64-bit operation (bridged, I guess) before my PC spring cleaning and reinstall.
Say, Billy, are you using Kore? If so, how do you like it?

I'm absolutely using Kore2 Software Edition (that's just KORE2 without the hardware controller) a LOT.  I like it a lot.
Like every plugin I have, it has it's strengths and weaknesses, but there's no doubt it's one of my go-to plugins.

I also have a number of their add-on packs as well.

Building on what CJ said, instead of V-vocal you can just use the built in pitch shifter effect. Solo the track with that on it, and arm another one for recording, with your soundcard as the input. Hit record, and drag the pitch adjust down as you want it.
