That's How I'll Remember You NEW Ballad

Every few songs I feel compelled to do a ballad, this is my latest.

Enjoy (I hope) - Daryl

That’s How I’ll Remember You

An angel’s voice soft in the morning
Eyes like the sky so blue
Thief of hearts you came without warning
That’s how I’ll remember you.

Lips that steal my breath away
And whisper what I want them to
A smile that lights up the darkest places
That’s how I’ll remember you.

Chorus
You’ve been gone for so long
It’s hard to make it through
Every day that I remember you

Giver of love asks for nothing
The only love I ever knew
Honesty that runs as deep as the ocean
That’s how I’ll remember you

As fresh as the rain that falls in the desert
All my fears withdrew
You lifted my soul with your embraces
That’s how I’ll remember you

Nice and smooth,  good job. It sounds like you're micing a cab, you may want to denoise that, or at least put a gate on it to reduce the amp noise.

Nice guitars as always and the mix sound reasonable here.

    Hey Daryl,

Nice chord changes - particularly in the chorus.  Sometimes, in certain inflections, your voice reminds me of Ricky Nelson -- and then I realized that your guitar reminds me of James Burton -- so, nice job

A beautiful, mellow song with terrific lyrics.  Just what I've come to expect from you.  Your voice and guitar are a perfect match.  Your songwriting skills are very professional, and you, or somebody, should be making a living off of these tunes.

    All the best,

Hey Daryl, nice it has a real 70's country feel.

The master is a little full on though, for me.  For this genre, getting into the loudness wars wont help you.

It's a little piercing in those pesky mids, for me.  It's making the vocals seem a little brittle.

    But I actually like it.

    Nice.

    Peace Ben

Robby - Hmmm I don't hear the noise.  I'm generally pretty careful about making sure there isn't any extraneous noise from my mics.

    John - Thanks my friend.

ABull - I've always been a big fan of Ricky, although I've never tried specifically to emulate him.  Thank you!

Mark - Thanks... Yea, I figure you can never go wrong with guitar harmonies

Tim - I feel like I can never run out of songs.  Sometimes it will take me a week to get the first line of lyrics, but once I break the ice, they generally fall together fast.  There is an endless cornicopia of melodies.  I expect my output will at least double once I'm retired, although I'm not trying to rack up numbers of songs, it's just something I enjoy doing a lot.    Thank you.

Lynn - I'm doing a commercial CD this fall just for the fun of it, I'm not looking to make a dime, but that would be cool!  Thanks.

James - I did about $400 in studio foam in my remodeled room and that was huge for the vocals. Good mics and cables are a big help as well.  Also a huge dose of luck, all help to make up for a lack of skill.  Glad you like the sound!

Scotty - Thank you!  Hopefully that means you will buy my CD this fall .  They make great Christmas gifts

Rik  -  That's a great compliment coming from a guitar player of your caliber.  Thank you.

Ben - I agree.  But I had it on a CD collection of my tunes where the more up-tempo tunes where significantly louder, so I pumped it up more to keep it in line with those tunes.  It's a habit I'm trying to break.  Thank you!

    Daryl

nice.  funny i was just going to say it reminded me of rick nelson but i see allan already mentioned that. i REALLY LOVE the guitar tones....smooth & mellow w/ just enough twang.  some of the chord changes and harmonies actually remind me of the beatles.  the imagery in the lyrics is strong and everlasting.

Lovely stuff Daryl. That chord change on the last line of the hook is perfect. Actually the verse is as 'hooky' as the chorus - neat trick that! I'd love to hear your songs with a real drummer, this is crying out for some sensitive brush/snare work.

Really excellent smooth stuff Daryl.  A very nice match of the lyrics and music.  Wonderful harmonies on the guitars.  You know the vocals do kinda have a Ricky Nelson ring and the guitars do have a bit of the James Burton touch.  Nelson and Burton --- that's not bad at all  :>)

    Hi Daryl,

+1 to the Ricky Nelson references! Excellent song and vocal/guitar performances.

The cean/chimy guitar part sounds great, as well. Great work!

Bit of noise at the beginning that needs removing and I'd maybe replace the snare sound with more of a sidestick, but sounds pretty good otherwise. You really have your vocal and guitar tones nailed for this style.

Thanks all.   I really like Ricky Nelson, but I've never tried to emulate him or James Burton, who really was ahead of his time in phrasing.  A pioneer of modern licks.  But I had not thought this tune to be Ricky like, mostly given the more jazzy chord structure.

James - The chord you were referring to is a Cm7 b5 which is the same thing as an Eb m6

Reminded me a little of Lonesome Town.

You seem to write good tunes every time, D.
