The 64-bit Dilemma - Any help for my Favorite Bass?

Hi Gang...

Well, at long last I received a new machine as a gift from a friend. this one I'm building has a clean copy of Vista x64 and Sonar x64 installed and working fine...

The dilemma?

My bass guitar of choice (virtual) is from Will Lee's 1st sampled bass collection which I got for the long gone GigaSampler... I later loaded and converted them to VSampler and upgraded to the 3.5 version which has been fine for this purpose...

But now, in the x64 world, I can't run the DXi and tho there is a vst version, it requires unlocking from maz-sound whom I can no longer get any response...

So my problem/need is to find a sample player that supports either gigasampler or vsampler libraries.... There is a chance I can use the VSampler vst to convert to yet another format, but I doubt it as it runs in demo mode only...

The extra issue? I'm broke and can't afford anything... I only need a player capable of loading playing this one instrument set so my needs are very minimal for it...

any suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks...
Keni

I've converted older libraries to Kontakt format & I also use this-

not free but there's a demo to try, 32b bridges in X1.

Keni, I still use patches from that same library myself from time to time! I had purchased the soundfonts directly from sampleheads and eventually ended up extracting all of the samples and remapping everything in Kontakt 1.5 w/ my own mode wheel/key switches, etc... Do you have kontakt, perchance?

You could always play your midi bass on an older 32 bit DAW and then just export the wav and import it on your new daw?

Keni I'm not sure if the OS is causing the DXi version problem but you can install the Sonar 32 bit version alongside the 64 bit one.

I do this and it doesn't take up much extra space as the installed content is largely the same.

I keep the 32 bit version of Sonar installed exactly so I can run 32 bit add-ons that I still use in 'native' mode where necessary, there is still a lot of 32 bit only stuff I like and I don't like Bitbridge or JBridge much.  That wont help of course if the sampler simply won't install on Vista.

Thanks for all the ideas everybody...

I guess this is gonna be a problem for me for a while.

I installed both 32/64 bit Sonar versions, but I can't run the 32 bit until I get a proper interface. I can get the inboard (64bit) sound working for x64 only...

...and it would defeat the purpose of going to 64bit for me as I use this bass on most of my projects...

I know I upgraded to the commercial version of Vsampler 3.5, but I must be using the wrong serial number as it only registers me as a Sonar OEM version which won't unlock the vst version... Very frustrating.

I really can't picture myself remapping the multi-sampled instrument...

I just took a quick look at sampleloord and it seems to support gig libraries? I'm not certain, but I can't afford to Buy it anyway...

A big fly in the ointment this is... I'm glad I didn't tarry to upgrade my current DAW! ;-)

Do a search on Asio4All it is designed to aggregate a standard windows driver to use ASIO it may help in this case until you get setup with an interface.

It's safe, doesn't mess with your system and if it doesn't work it's easy to uninstall.

You could try LinuxSampler... I'm pretty sure it loads GIG files natively, though I've never used it myself... http://www.linuxsampler.org/

Also, SynthFont has a a VST version that's also free and supports GIG... http://www.synthfont.com/Downloads.html

Both worth trying out, since, you know, they don't cost anything... :)

Has anyone heard of the LinuxSampler? I just found it and it claims to be a free 64/32-bit Sample Player that can load gig's samples.

Versions available for all leading platforms...?

    http://www.linuxsampler.org/

The download page for the windows version is a large FTP site with many versions... I just grabbed the most current date?

Nervous... I made a restore point before I try this one...

    Keni -

You reminded me that I had not installed v-sampler yet either.  I have symphony of voices and few others that I ran with v-sampler.

Any rate, I installed vasmpler full version 3.52, put in my 500 character registration key and it works stand alone, and as 32 bit version in Sonar X1.

The key is the same one I have used since Sonar 6.
