Wow. I have X3 up on one monitor, and your shots of SHS2 on the other. Things sure have changed.
Back then, everything looked like an Excel spreadsheet.
I still have to load the Delay Lama on the new machine. He's always been fun.
My first dip in the water was Sonar Home Studio 4. At the time, it felt more like I had fallen into the deep end.

The graphics had changed quite a bit from SHS2.
Edirol VSC was my first real taste of MIDI.
At that time, Cakewalk was still steadfast about DXi(note the DXi logo in the synth audio tracks), but they were acknowledging VST with the introduction of the VST wrapper.
In this view, Edirol VSC was a DXi, but Sample Tank Free was actually a wrapped VSTi.

Then there was Guitar Tracks Pro 3.

Essentially a close cousin to SHS4, but without VSTi support or MIDI. It did, however, support VST effects. The great thing about GTP3 was that it had the power of SHS4, but it was totally audio. It was comfortable for those who were intimidated by MIDI or saw no use for it.
And we had a rollicking good time in the GT forum during that period.

Last, but not least, an integral part of my Sonar/Cakewalk experience.
Not a Cakewalk product, but a key component in my old DAW.

The E-MU Patchmix interface.
It was the key to making the humble 0404PCI sound card more than it appeared to be.
There seemed to be no middle ground on this thing. If you could wrap your head around it, you loved it.
If you couldn't, it was the spawn of satan.

I'm starting to enjoy this little trip down memory lane.
What's anybody else got?

Hello Robert ,

Yes , now that' s some great stuff you posted

You know what ? that is the first time I've ever seen what Guitar Tracks Pro looks like .
I remember back in the day that section of the forum used to kick a$$ …..lot's of cool people and posting activity ...

Yeah, I think there is no need to limit this just to Cakewalk only …there are a lot of cool synths and plugs out there that we all have used inside of Cakewalk

Oh, how cool is that?!
I always picture my part as more of a deep green.
The other day, I was messin' around on the D-18, and I slid into FBC. It's been forever since I played it, and it felt really good. That's just a fun little riff to play.
Eric pops in every now and then, but I haven't seen him for a while.  I still enjoy telling people the story of how that song came to be. Good times!
And now, the real Buchanan Creek:

The quiet water in the shadow of the large rock on the right was always good for a fish.
In all the years my dad and I fished the creek, we saw very few other fishermen. It was our special place, and it was so cool that you and Eric picked up the vibe and ran with it.

Hi Robert ,
I kept thinking that I was gonna get around to posting an updated screen pic of your guitar parts in deep green …
at some point I'll get back on my XP DAW to do that for you ….I used red because i thought your playing was hot
Eric's mandolin parts were a big reason I went out and got myself a mandolin …hope he is doing well …
cool beans on the D 18 …some day I want to get a Martin acoustic from that era …
You know , looking at your picture …it looks very much a few areas very close to where I live …
The main thing is The Magic …I know Buchanan Creek has Magic for you …
I had a Magic place back East …it had Indian caves and trials right off The Hudson River …
I'm still looking for my Magic place out here ….
nice talking with you Robert….Happy upcoming Holiday's to you and your family .

Hi Rain ,
I probably would have jumped on that back in the day  …
I was using hardware midi sequencers and recording my synths as audio up until 2004…
My brother K…turned me on to SONAR ..he had SONAR 1 …he spoke highly on it …
it took me a while to switch over from a dedicated hard disc audio only recorder …when i did ,
I wound up starting my computer based DAW journey with Home Studio a couple of months before I joined this forum …
thanks for sharing that ,

Kenny
