The Bakery- yet another thread :)
I saw that other thread and was quickly disheartened by the turn of events, I took a test drive of the Bakery and wished to comment but thought a new clean slate would be a good idea. Anyhow. I like some of the intended ideas. First I always thought the sub threads where a little over abundant and therefore watered down. People have been known to pass away before getting an answer on some of them. So I like the idea of one does it all,, to a point. Myself I learn a lot from the Hardware forum. But often topics that belong there are posted here. I answered a question just to see how it worked. Fine, But one thing I noticed was the postings are upside-down with the newest at the top....I hate that format. I've tried to follow other forums that use that style and it's impossible. Anyhow lets all place some feedback here on what we think about it's interface and try and stay OT.

( edited to be more constructive in my choice of language. ) I've run across that type of forum before and it's (originally I said "totally stupid"). not a user friendly format. I find the format of this original forum the most common. If anything is a fault with this forum it's they have taken up half the page with stickies so a thread can disappear to page 2 pretty quickly and not get noticed. This is very annoying when using a mobile device, I never look at the stickies, to me they are like the adds in a sidebar. Which is another thing I noticed about the Bakery-- adds in a side bar - (-Booo... please ignore I didn't mean to be rude)

I'd rather the resources be put into fixing issues with Sonar than designing a new system. The VU Tick Marks coloring for the gel meters has been broken for several months now. I guess it's not a big issue for Cakewalk or other people since it seems like they'd have fixed it by now, but it matters to me. I've been using orange meters along with black tick marks for years. I hate that I can't do it now. And, it's something that seems so simple to me. Instead of changing the system, fix the one you have. Problem is filed as CWBRN-53742. Also, it doesn't thrill me that my feature request of adding note names to MIDI notes in the piano roll didn't make the transfer. It's a feature that's available in C-----, R-----, and S----- ---, but not in Sonar. It makes my life a lot easier, and speeds up my workflow. I didn't know what I was missing until I used hosts with it, but now it's fundamental to me. I won't even get into how much the piano roll needs to be redesigned. It's been two decades and five months of using using Cakewalk programs. There are things I love about it, but I feel like it's time to move on, and I wish I didn't feel that way.
A deep chesty bawl echoes from rimrock to rimrock, rolls down the mountain, and fades into the far blackness of the night. It is an outburst of wild defiant sorrow, and of contempt for all the adversities of the world. - Aldo Leopold

I have my start screen open and there's no cupcake or portal, yet, and I'm up to date. However, I do see that my notification is out of date; it's telling me that the 2016.10 update is available, yet, I already have that version.

I am a bit "cooled down" after the first "shoke"... 1. Why should I scroll down to see the top menu? 2. ... which I barely can read on my notebook, even when it is there. 3. I have to turn my head to look at stats and who has opened the discussion, and my screen is not even 27'' 4. No "Visited" indication. Have I already seen that? Are there new answers? 5. Google not yet knows it, tags are not yet there 6. (the first question in my own thread... but ignored by everyone...) by rules, in "Answers" can be no discussions. Who is answering then?

That was. I have mentioned in the other thread that I was asked to work with such type of "forum". The feeling was the same (may be not polite, but constructive). BTW your 3 statements are may be polite, but where is the "constructivity"?

The "constructivity" as you put it is in the hope that the OP will realize there is nothing useful in name calling or applying negative terms to something without explanation. What does one learn from when something is described as "totally stupid?" What is "Booo" about a side-bar? So far, there is so little to be learned from the threads about the Bakery, it make me wonder why they should be allowed in an area intended for discussion about how to use SONAR or even exist at all.

IMO simply expressing likes and dislikes are rarely constructive without reasons for the opinions. The ordering of the comments in the Bakery discussion section does not work for me. To that end, I posted a thread in the discussion section of the Bakery about the issue. Ryan initially responded with an explanation of how it currently works. That helped me understand a little more and it lead to my refining my comments. Later Ryan updated his post with Ryan Munnis [Cakewalk] UPDATE: we didn't intend for the Discussion area to follow the same order since there is no "Accepted Answer" option for discussion based conversations. We'll be updating so that Discussion flows in a more sensical way. My original remark does still apply to Questions and Ideas however.
I have no idea how it will ultimately turn out but it looks promising. To me there is no value posting in the SONAR forum questions and issues about the Bakery. The issues with the Bakery have nothing to do with how SONAR works. Cactus Music Sorry I forgot you work for them.
You should know by now I am not and have never been a Cakewalk employee. In case you forgot, I will tell you again... I am not a Cakewalk employee. But if I were a Cakewalk employee, i doubt it would affect my opinion about what is useful and constructive conversation, where the conversation should be had or how best to improve the Bakery.

Me too Rod :-) Im going to go out on a small weak limb and say...I believe 90% of Sonar users are over 30 years old. It just seems like a software built for a mature, seasoned musician/Producer. When I see Cakewalk do things, add features to try to attract a younger crowd, I understand it, but I don't agree with it.

Yes I agree. Interesting the marketing for the newly released Home Studio was all about Loops etc. Oh and ya, you can actually record real music too! :) I love this forum just the way it is and will certainly hate to see it go.. Oh well, there's always time to waste on Gear Slutz and Home Brew forums...

Those are super important to me. I don't subscribe to threads as a rule I just open the forum and look for my icons. Also navigation?? There is none. No way to return to the main list?? You got to be kidding...or??
