very nice. great track. but i think the strings have a slight latency in the fast parts. I think the reverb is causing this effect. but i'm not sure.

the balance of instruments is perfect!

everytime the strings play a fast part. I know how difficult it is to work with orchestral samples and make them sound like a real orchestra. I'm dealing with this problem all the time. one of our weapons is the reverb. it makes them sound smooth and more real. but as you know reverb places the soundsource in a distance. the more the reverb the greatest the distance between the source and the listener. so even though you've succeeded making the orchestra sound real, there's big time difference between the beat and the orchestra which is noticable in the fast playing parts. it's not a real problem if you offset 20-30ms in advance the orchestra. then they'll be in perfect time with the beat and still sound real!

    sincerely,

    Ioannis

Ahh that makes sense ! Sounds quite complicated to set up in fact though. All the instruments, except the drums /percussion would then have to be nudged forward a little yes to compensate for the reverb ? Maybe I'll try. Also maybe making the predelay longer might help somewhat I guess going by this logic ? Thanks for listening and your criticism, appreciated !

Sure,I think the guitar could have more a place too !! The reason why I've backed off from putting more in though is cos its my main instrument-and I need to think more outside my own box if you know what I mean lol !! Get out of my comfort zone.
Glad you liked the piece anyway !

I posted a piece called 'The Wall' which ended up sounding more like a gun-battle than anything.  It's so different from this it's not funny. :-)  Anyway, this is excellent!  I'm no pro with orchestration, but it sounds good to me!  Ron F. (he IS a pro!) says to actually move back the (midi notes for) the instruments in the back since you actually do hear them a bit after the beat.  It's not hard if you lasso the whole track of each instrument and move them back a tiny bit.

    Great job!

I'll have a listen to your piece ! Yes I've heard a lot of Ron's stuff, its always a pleasure to listen to.I see what you're saying about moving the midi notes back, maybe this would be easier than fiddling with reverb or what have you.I read somewhere too, that even if the notes are placed exactley on the beat they still need to be pushed back in order for them to sound on the beat (with certain libraries) - so I guess I'll have to start trying this sooner rather than later !!! Many thanks for listening,I will listen to your piece now,

It seems to start rather abruptly? I played the beginning twice to make sure. Based on the dynamic use of instruments? And arrangement? You may consider an arrangement without that snare/hat in the song (IMO) It doesn't feel like it fits.  Or maybe some other more eclectic percussion.

Wow Kev. This was amazing. I listened three times as it left me wanting more and more.

The composition is fantastic. I didn't have the same timing issues with the fast violins as the others have stated above. Sounded great to me.

    Wonderful stuff.

Kev, nice composition and balance. I like the motion and brisk pace.
I get more feel of a hunt than a battle, and from the perspective of the huntee. Some of the passages convey a sense of outright terror.

    Well done.

    Hey !
Yes pretty uptempo, and I liked the pace too ! Sure I guess it could be a hunt.Interesting that you say it conveys terror in places ! I've been listening to quite a bit of James Bernard (Composed music for horror films in the late 60s,70s) so maybe some of that is rubbing off. Thanks for listening !
