The Beautiful And Dangerous (MRI)

Straight up heavy rocker in 7/8. Guitar solo is very Jimmy Page/Dave Navarro. Lyrics loosely inspired by Arthur Rimbaud's "Une Saison en Enfer" ["A Season In Hell"]

The Beautiful And Dangerous (demo)
© 2009 MRI
Words & Music by Daren Thomas Turner

'tis the season far from hell
time to chill; time to gell
fill my shoes with geritol
wash it down with alcohol

where were you when we were us?
you're beautiful and dangerous
you are like a setting sun
get too close and you get burned

pleasantries wear thick and thin
wander out and wander in
lichens grow under your skin
your vegetable is all within

will you please please remove your hat?
bow your head and wait for that
thing you didn't really trust

The beautiful and dangerous pills are always black and red--take just one and you are dead
there is not an antidote
there is not a shred of hope
the beautiful and dangerous
things you said before you broke
everything that was my life

time to tease; time to grin
time to laugh at everything
time to take your ecstasy
time to find your deep meaning

all your friends are misconstrued
all of them are just like you
"things you didn't mean to say"
hell you say them anyway;

all your friends are so upset they have brought their tourniquets
they have brought their silver spoons
but they will all be leaving soon
when it is the midnight hour
i will use my special powers
a little game of show and tell...

Not my thing really to be able to make real comment on. Seems to sound alright here Vox is a little buried, for me, which I am aware is not unusual for this type of tune.

Better peeps here than me to make good constructive comment.  I would sit and watch you if you was playing were I was, if that makes sense.

    Thanks for sharing.

It sounds like you've spent a few hours listening to Stone Temple Pilots.  You have this style pretty much nailed.  As Wookie said, even the vocals are indistinct, which is common for this genre.  I like your tune, I like your sound, and I'd like a little more bass.  Do you have an encore?

cool i love STP. bass could be more prominent or dialed in better. he was playing a Squire copy precision jazz direct so its tone isn't as palpable as true Fender. also i'm using Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier and Marshall Triple Lead JCM 2000 which occupy a lot of frequencies

Hmmmm... this one is lacking oomph... not sure why. You sure do have some great ideas though. Well done.

love King Crimson!  Bill Bruford is god. Fripp is a genius. when i lived in Woodstock NY in the 90s i ran into Tony Levin all the time at local coffee shop as he lived up there.  think he still does

Wow, excellent job on this! Sounds great. Drums and guitar solo could be a little more up front, I think.

    Love it.

I thought the chord changes mid song were nicely done. However, the lyrics seem a bit random, although they do rhyme well. The video looks pretty random too. The vocals are dynamically limited and become quite annoying as the song progresses. Some mixing work needs done to bring up the drums and background guitars. They had a nice grind to them.

all valid points. especially the last one. lyrics and video are very random on a conscious level. i don't think i'm capable of any art on a conscious level. i work from dreams, which must be interpreted with the dream's language...

this is a good tune, dude, the riff/rhythm is great, vocals are sung well. only thing i would like is a little more dynamic variation, it's all full-on, but very well done indeed.
