I too have had good luck with the Antress stuff. Here's another site with lots of free plugins. Check out their archives section at the lower right hand of the page for even more. http://www.vstwarehouse.com/

Another one for Antress. Some of the best analog hardware processing emulations out there. I can't find a download for them anymore. If anyone wants to have them I could upload to a file sharing place in the cloud. You'd have to send me donuts though just found a link - http://antress.blogspot.com.au/ Click on the Download 4.95 link. thats a cmpressed file of all the VSTs. A whole bunch of them but you can still send donuts.

I used to use a few of the Voxengo effects, but most of them have been incorporated, in some form or another, into the X1 arsenal. So I don't even go looking for the free stuff anymore... I've got enough on my hands learning all the goodies I now have in X1, including all the ProChannel stuff I have bought. There is one free VST thing that I have downloaded though, but I'm not sure quite how to use it. It's called Gonio 3, and it is a free frequency analyser. I came across it in one of the free video tutorials that came with X1, you may have seen yourselves...

I keep an eye open in the software forum here. Every now and then you can pick up a really good, free, VST or FX. I happened upon a light and very nice sounding version of East West which is not there anymore, and of course, Native Instruments has some free, and very good and useful synths in their lineup. This too changes every so often. Best to just check their site to see what they currently offer for free.

Arguably the best place to search for yourself, hundreds of free plugin listings in searchable database: http://www.kvraudio.com/q.php?search=1&os[]=win32&os[]=win64&pr[]=f&av[]=re&sh[]=s&ob[]=dv&lm[]=200&bl[]=t I can't be bothered to fix that link with Cakewalk's terrible forum software. If you copy / paste it, I already setup the search for Windows, Free VSTs, etc. If you just click the link it will be a new blank search with no parameters set. You can further narrow the search. Probably better than 85-90% of all known plugins are in their database.

Beware of free plugins! Many are worth exactly what you pay for them, some even less if they crash your project. Here are some that have proven both stable and useful to me: Voxengo SPAN Voxengo Boogex Voxengo MSED TAL-Chorus Kjaerhus Classic Compressor Kjaerhus Classic Chorus Hbasm Stereoizer Klanghelm DC1A LoudMax Digital Fishphones Blockfish George Yohng's W1 Limiter Luxonix LFX-1310 Meldaproductions MLimiter Cable guys PanCake MrDonald (Leslie sim) GlaceVerb Bootsie's Density Digital Fishphones Dominion With the exception of the Voxengo and Meldaproductions plugs, most of these are 32-bit only.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

I still use Kjaerhus Classic Delay, it has "the right kind of noise".
