The Bouy - The Time Flies
Pesky lil' critters. Thought it 'bout time I got my nose outta everyone elses business and make me own tune... I got a rake of new sounds recently and thought I'd best check 'em out. 100% pure midi As usual all sounds are Reason 4 rewired back into Sonar and hand blended there. Top one on me Soundclick link below.

:-) Avant Guard, now I see where you get it from! I would mix those drums back just a tiny bit, not much, just a weence (in places). The ride was fun! Nice tune.

Sounds really good here. Very creative. I'm always a bit amazed when I hear stuff like this because I don't think that I could even begin to keep track of everything that's going on in it (that's a compliment). I'd be lost after about the fourth track. Nice work!

JonBouy, Very cool song. My problem would be that I'd drive way to fast on the road if this song was playing on the radio. Which of course means "Excellent!". A couple of suggestions I'd make is it to bring out the bass sound a bit more and the overall brightness. The bass has a really cool groove to it but is kind of buried in the mix. I wish I was as good at getting the synth sounds you have in this mix. I'm a guitar player and when I get to play keys I usually use the patches without much changes because I'm not up on that stuff. I'm wondering if the overall mix is a bit too bright, but that might simply be because the bass need to be brought out more. These are my opinions, don't sweat it if you don't agree. Keep up the great material. Tom

Velvety sleak and sexy music. another cool groove. I think the bass is in my favorite place (more felt then heard) but there a a few spots where i know you're making some tasty little melodic movements and it's not being heard (around 1:10 or so). Vox are a bit buried , would bring up a bit.

That's an interesting sound and groove - somebody mentioned bringing up the bass a bit, and I tend to agree with that opinion. That was fun to listen to.

You need to put this tune to the next volvo or BMW commercial as the driver is zipping along at break-neck speed along the coastline. Of course the hot babe is sitting next to him with her hair blowing in the breeze.... You just can't sit still while listening to this Jon. Flies in motion instead of poetry?? Thanks guys this was one of those quickies that just come out when auditioning sounds. This took about 6 hours start to finish all on cans so I'm not surprised at the suggested tweaks and I agreed with them all and of put the now adjusted track up. Robby: All I've been hearing is drums for the last 2 weeks... I've turned 'em down and applied a little compression preset I suggested to someone else recently... Darin: I have a real 'kludge' for multi-track arrangements I just break down the chords into parts and then just select the appropriate ensemble for the separate bits which are then mixed and grouped to keep it simple. I just got the Miro Gold orchestral bundle and wanted an excuse to check it out. Tom: I totally agree it was intended to have been a thumping busy bass line, that's what comes of mixing with 'phones. I've beefed it up now but I've prolly gone to far the other way now. Rick: That's me singing....trust me the vox are plenty loud enough... Janet: Ya, just bop till ya drop. Taylor_514C Yes, it needed more bottom....nice guitar btw. Larry A couple of nice things goin' on? I counted at least 7 but I'm biased... Thanks y'all for your ears on this the re-mix is up.

nice tune, open, airy mix, lotsa stuff going on, am i the only one sensing a strong 80s revival in a lot of the current tunes, i mean lotsa retro sounds and funky beats...it's the sort of thing i can imagine accompanying the ceefax pages around 4am, if you know what i mean!!!

Hi there Jon This is really good mate, great sounds and a perfect mix. I like the way it develops and stays interesting - mind you, in the quiet bass/drums passage in the middle, I was half expecting the Axel-F theme to start up, probably 'cause of that sweet 80's vibe others have mentioned. Cool [even though I'm too old to say 'cool'!] Steve

Snappy and sleek; interest combination of textures. Kind of loses momentum at 2:15 in the break down, otherwise moves a long nicely. It does have an advert music spot feel, you could do nicely with this kind of material there.

Mark: Priceless, ceefax music hahaha. I must have mentioned being a 'Gooner' somewhere earlier... . Not sure about the retro thing but I guess if there is an 80's vibe to this I'm catching up slowly... Strummy: Yeah I had something in the quiet bit originally but it wasn't working. Thanks for the listen. sja: Come out from behind that headstock... Frank: Thanks for that. Ed: Thanks for the listen it is appreciated, I agree yeah there's definitely a bit missing during the breakdown now. Shad: Cheers for the big up, nice comments, appreciated. Tom: Any lessons I've had about stereo imaging I've learned from your good self. Thanks all for the feedback

Nice work on this Jon! what did you use for drums? the drums fit really good on this, not over done, but not just repetitive. nice soundscape, good spread. are you playing all of the sounds on a keyboard in reason, I assume? you've got just a little bit of a low end rumble that I'd roll of at about 2:23. other than that, just praise!

Herb: Thanks fer the listen and the thumbs up. Mark: Well spotted. That there groove button as in my Avatar activates the Regroove mixer in Reason and the beat is a fusion of '70's disco grooves fused with a more modern dance beat the result is the hybrid enforced by the groove buttons is what's going on here. I made Rex loops of some ol' disco classics extracted the midi to make the groove clips then the timing is imposed on the new material in varying degrees. So I'd guess you'd call it 'Progressive Bump'... Reece: Praise works for me... No keyboards we're harmed in the making of this its all mouse work and cut and paste. The drums are my pride and joy, they are my own drastic customisation of the Reason Drum Kits refill which is a multi-mic setup, and is based on my previous studio experience, in fact an old engineer friend of mine has helped me put it all together. I've put a lot of work into the drums over the last few months and am using quite a few grooves from my own playing days extracting midi, timing and dynamics from a library of audio loops I've built up during that time as well as building up good collection off the shelf grooves. This kit features samples from my own trusty Pearl snare. I use Toontracks free EZPlayer for keeping the grooves all organized and layout the building blocks via that into Sonar. I then send the midi out to Reason for hand tweaking and ReGrooving in R4's sequencer that then plays out through the 'drums' which are normally housed in 9 or 10 NN-XT samplers contained in one Reason combinator along with 3 X 14 channel mixers for the main mic outputs, separate eq for each component with various compression routings and other miscellany. I've even got a room emulator built in so I can use dry one shot samples to get them sounding close to multi-mic'd ones. A long answer to a short question, I know but I'm just glad someone asked after I've gone to those lengths... The low end rumble is actually a note from a sub-bass patch I forgot to remove (because I didn't hear it... ) after I made some amendments to that section...just checking if you've got your normal sharp ears on Reece...its reassuring to me that you never miss a thing.

Hi Jon Interesting groove and some interesting mix/pan choices. The Abacus and Rizla/Comb kazoo really got a workout. I'd pull back the verb on the main arp, compress it up with a slower attack to make it punchier and put some of highs back in to bring it forward.
