The Bouy has a cheeky bird there mate.

I hope that came out the way I intended it, as a compliment  to the missus.

I googled "cheeky bird" and got hits about everything except women, and nothing derogatory came up, so I hope its OK.

PS I think the CHB has competition now, and if we could only get the rest of the ladies here to collarbrate
on a project with Karyn and the Mermaid......

then you've opened the subject where I can post a question that has had me curious ever since I saw the post by John T...

is the term "bird" derogatory or complimentary?

it sounds like a similar term in the US:  "chick" which used to be derogatory during the women's lib movement, but I think these days the young folk don't think it's derogatory.

Reese, yuo bring up a good point, thats why I searched for it first.

Having heard it in Brit movies and read the same, I assumed (dangerous move) that the term was OK.

My female drummer and my GF refer to each other as their "chickie" so that word seems ok

I remember the first time I heard my teenage boy call a girl at school a "chick" and I cringed because of the connotation it has for me, but apparently they use it all the time and they don't think anything about it.

She's is indeed a 'cheeky bird' mm

Nothing derogatory there, she laughed (in a good way) when I read it out that's the proof.

The difference here is context, had you passed me in the street and said it I'd have given you a knowing 'wink' back.  Had we all been in a pub and John_T came out with his corny line dating from the mid-sixties we'd have all spit our beer over him laughing in ridicule at the old dinosaur...

'Bird' is pretty much deprecated as a term, like chick, but many people my age still see it as endearing.

And here's a picture of her and myself and if the look on my face isn't spelling out the thought '"cheeky bird" I can't think of a better definition.

Karyn took this one which is why it's 97.363345% better than my earlier effort...  It also shows the new Tele a bit clearer.

I thought cheeky meant "rough" "forward" or "overstepping"?

But I suppose after a few jars, definitions matter not.
