I, ahem, borrowed Cakewalk (pre Pro Audio!), Logic and Cubase from a friend (who also borrowed them from elsewhere). Only Cakewalk was logical to me - it behaved like other Windows programs so was easy to pick up and use and consistent in how it worked. So I went and bought a genuine version and have been here ever since.

Black Country/West Midlands, but from the Staffordshire Moorlands originally.

Why Sonar? 20-odd years ago we had PCs, couldn't afford Macs and Cakewalk/Sonar seemed the best option in terms of what you got for your money and being intuitive to use.

Since then have ended up using Macs for just about everything, other than one (currently poorly) PC running Win8.1 and Sonar, and an elderly PC running Linux.

Sonar Platinum 64bit, Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit, I7 3770K Ivybridge, 16GB Ram, Gigabyte Z77-D3H m/board,
ATI 7750 graphics+ 1GB RAM, 2xIntel 520 series 220GB SSDs, 1 TB Samsung F3 + 1 TB WD HDDs, Seasonic fanless 460W psu, RME Fireface UFX, Focusrite Octopre.
Assorted real synths, guitars, mandolins, diatonic accordions, percussion, fx and other stuff.

Why Sonar?

Up until 2007 I was using hard disc based recoding machines (2 x Fostex D90's slaved together) but as time went by found them to be too limiting fort the ideas I had in my head.

So I did a stack of research, downloaded several demos and eventually chose Sonar (6 PE) mainly due to the reputation of this very forum. Nothing else quite like it existed at the time apart from the Cubase forum and that was just a train wreck of competing egos.

CbB, Platinum, 64 bit throughout

Why Sonar - started with Fruity Loops 3 and never managed to finish anything, which I attributed to the workflow/model. Got into Sonar for its more linear model, and still haven't finished anything - could it be me?

Well, two test questions first.
Is it pronounced 'scones' or 'scons'?  Proper tea is made from teabags or loose-leaf?

I'm in Edinburgh - I didn't realise there were so many of us in the UK - and in Scotland ;-)

Do NOT say scones (to rhyme with bones) say it to rhyme with "on"

Oh - I'm actually from Long Island, New York - but I've been here for 29 years now, so speak the language ;-)

Jonesy, I think it was the Thekla I did a few gigs at.
Now Edinburgh, now there's a place I haven't been to in a while. My memories include, Touring with that famous scot, Alexander O'Neil, the guy from the Bay City Rollers running the in-house crew at Usher Hall, and a little known band called The Indian Givers.

Prefer coffee, but did go for afternoon Tea at Woburn Abbey yesterday with the Mother-in-Law.

Why Sonar?  Ex pro-engineer from the 90's (the happy days of Studer A800 multitrack and SSL 4000 desks), then developing software apps for engineers. Following an extended sabbatical from all things music got back with Music Creator and then Sonar 6 bundled with the SPS-25 audio card.

The mix of great folk on this forum still makes it one of the most enjoyable destinations on my browser.
