The Day After The Morning Before
Okay, I feel a little bit guilty about posting this here... I've collaborated on a few pieces now with a guy on SoundCloud. I don't think he uses Sonar, so that is one reason why I feel a little guilty. Plus, on this particular piece I have not actually contributed to the composition and I have only added effects to the track. Having said that, I am still pleased how this turned out. I Have recently purchased an effect called MMultiBandGranular. I appear to be going more and more down the route of exploring different sound creation techniques and this certainly appears to fit the bill. Still a lot to learn though. So, altogether, I created a separate bus for each of the following, Timeless (my go-to delay at the moment), Breverb (my go-to reverb), Adaptiverb, MMultiBandGranular and two Guitar Rig. Two instances of the collaboration base track, one normal and one reversed, were placed on separate audio tracks. The reversed instance was sent to all of the busses whereas the normal one was only sent to the side chain input of MMBG. I then added a load of automation to the send levels over the length of the track. Funny really, in a way, because a couple of years ago I used to stress so much about creating songs that may fit into the standard sort of verse, chorus, middle eight, all that kind of stuff, and I was never really happy with what I did. Now I that I have dumped that ethos and gone more for minimal/ambient/drone creations I seem to be a lot happier with my "music" now, and I am even getting more positive feedback here too, which is great. Anyway, here's the link, I hope you get through the experience okay:- https://soundcloud.com/synkrotron/the-day-after-the-morning-before Cheers, andy (apologies too for my current apparent Song Page domination...)

I enjoyed this Andy, and I'm usually not an ambient kind of guy. Really cool soundscapes and layering of effects. I just kicked back and let it take me where it would.... A nice ride!

Hiya Bob, I am always so pleased when peeps say that they don't normally listen to this stuff, and then appear to like what I have created... Makes it all worthwhile So, thanks for listening Bob. Bit of a funny one this because it's pretty much all out effects with no composition input whatsoever. A massive thanks for also listening to one of my ambient guitar pieces. You are a great guitarist so I take it as a compliment when peeps like yourself take time to listen to my guitar stuff. My skills are pretty limited so I have to rely heavily on post editing, but it seems to go down okay cheers andy

eph221 Is this a wink and nod to Umberto Eco's *Island of the day before?* No David, it's just a play on phrase, "the morning after the day before." I struggle with song titles. I do not write songs, if you care to listen, so I never have a basis on which to name a creation and I always name a piece after it is finished, usually with some astronomic or science fact/fiction relation. cheers and thanks for asking, andy

Yeah, I really liked it (as expected). Did MMultiBandGranular contribute a lot to the metallic tones? Just curious. Oh, and I thought those short swells (reversed something or another?) popping up here and there were really cool. Overall... it sorta felt like a large object moving slowly thru space...

Hi Steve, stevec Did MMultiBandGranular contribute a lot to the metallic tones?
Yeah, I think it did actually. To be honest, there was so much going on, effects wise, that I didn't really focus on one in particular. I've only just started using it and I normally mess around with a new toy first, before using it in a piece that I am going to make public. In this case, I just threw it in there to see what would happen Thanks gain for listening cheers andy
