The Mrs. and you might like this......decent storylines and the acting is quite good. I think it's set somewhere in the 50's (post WW2). Give it a shot mate.

I have often wondered Was his home town, Ballarat, named by early little dick Aussies in response to the paucity of women in the penal transportation system?

actually,it is the Aboriginal name the local Wathaurang people gave it meaning "resting place" ,possibly because of the abundance of local fauna making it a valuable resting place for their nomadic hunting life. also the site of the Eureka Stockade, where the miners fought the troopers over mining licences-Australia`s only armed rebellion. as for "early little dick Aussies"-they were mostly english rejects but due to all the gold dust in the air we soon bred out that anatomical deficiency, the only side effect being massive testicular development that is still evident today. cheers

yep,but it can have it`s drawbacks-Australian mens underwear manufacturers have created an extra large scrotal sack for the local market but there is no export market available, for obvious reasons. cheers.

They are thinking of axing this now and not making any more series. I really liked it too. We signed a partition in the Ballarat Art Gallery recently to keep it going. One can often see them shooting scenes for the show around Ballarat.

What's the reason for axing it? The reviews all seem very favourable, so they must be generating some money on it.....rooooight?

Well I don't know either. It is a quality production right from the get go. I also like Craig in this role too more than most other roles. He plays this part beautifully. Obviously it has not made the impact they had hoped for and maybe they have not sold it enough world wide. Compared to a lot of other more current cop shows and things it is very laid back. Set in Ballarat in the 50's. Slow moving world. But I agree the stories have been very interesting none the less. I hope they keep it on though for sure. Nice composer too doing the music. The theme is perfect as are the underscores in each episode. It is interesting living in Ballarat too because they don't have to do anything much to make the city look like this, it just looks like this. They can point the camera almost anywhere and get the perfect 50's era shot.

from the horses mouth: "In a statement, ABC’s head of scripted production Sally Riley said: “Dr Blake has had a sensational run on the ABC and we feel that the time is right to go out while we are still on top. We have a fantastic final season still to come and we look forward to wrapping the series up with a satisfying movie-length finale, as we bid farewell to an Australian TV icon.” But the decision has shocked and confused fans, as well as the star of the series Craig McLachlan, who can’t understand why the ABC has axed its highest-rating local show. In its last season, The Doctor Blake Mysteries averaged more than 1.6 million viewers, making it the broadcaster’s second most watched regular series, just behind Doc Martin. The series has also been an international success story, shown in more than 130 countries around the world, including on the BBC." maybe that`s what happens when a taxpayer funded broadcaster acts for apparently artistic reasons rather than ratings or profits. 5 seasons and a movie length finale is pretty much par for the course for a drama these days. R.I.P. is my opinion. cheers

Yes thanks Tony for the info. Perhaps you are right these things cannot go on forever. It was good while it lasted. The biggest mistake they could have made is doing something like 'Revenge' The first series was great and probably should have stopped there but instead it went on forever and turned in mush. Same with movies. The first The Matrix was really the only one and the best. What they did after that was a bit of joke.

Probably way too indifferent and politically incorrect which has all the Trump'ians (what's the aussie equivalent?) worried that their hairdo will fly the wrong way and show that it is just a wig!

Thanks Tony and Jeff for the info.....Ballarat looks/sounds like the perfect place my family would like to live....laid back/slower pace of life. Until then, we have at least 5 seasons to catch up on and yes, Craig does an excellent job in this role....he certainly makes the show.
