The English Language

I found this a little extra funny with all the recent grammar police stuff going on here.

    Hi,

Now you know why the English language is so bad to learn ... no grammar and horribly defined ... you say book, cook, look and then spook ... and it's the same situation between two consonants.

It's just plain horrific and typical lack of education and appreciation for a language.

Even in England it is not that bad, but their inconsistencies make Shakespeare and Marlowe look good!

Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

English spelling used to match the pronunciation, but now it's desperately in need of an update. Check out the English Spelling Society.

It's a mess for sure.  My own observations tell me that it's being fixed.  For the most part, people ignore the rules in day to day communication.  More and more function trumps form.  Considering that dictionaries provide a record of usage rather than a prescription, it will all work out over time.

I have heard of, and often use the word "buggerlugs," but I am wondering what "Buggerlugging" means...

.....and here I thought buggerlugging was carrying a few blokes with you where ever you went

Of note though.......at home, we do use the Oxford dictionary as our primary dictionary (comes in handy when playing scrabble and boggle).

I've always liked the stuff from the OP.  I used to have a fishtank on my office desk with the label "Ghoti" on it.  Got a few questions about it.  Not even sure if I could remember the potato one though!
