The FABulous FABfilter Sale is on!!!
The glorious day has come to save big money: "Until August 1, 25% discount on all bundles! http://www.fabfilter.com/ I have no Fabfilter plugs to date, but I do believe that NOW is the time to consider the possibility of getting some. How much will these plugins enhance my music over what I presently have is the question. We have many Fabfilter fans out here on the forum. Its time to chime in.

Does anyone have any comments on what level of system resources these plugs use, and if they're overly resource hungry? I'm considering getting the FX bundle.

I'm surprised nobody has chimed in on this one. There's many many Fabfilter fans here including myself. In a nutshell, you can't go wrong with Fabfilter products. Easy on system resources, an interface like none other (very visual and logical). The video tutorials are well done and very informative. I purchased the "mixing bundle" on special last year and there's no projects I'm working on that doesn't included a Fabfilter plugin. You can also ask someone to refer you if you don't have a Fabfilter account. This will give you a 10% discount on any Fabfilter product you purchase which are not part of a bundled special. And also a $14.00 USD discount for the referrer. A win-win all around.

Yes. Bitflipper is practically a volunteer sales Rep for Fabfilter and obviously thinks highly of their ability to shape and control music. I am wondering if the mastering bundle, alone, will be sufficient or if I should really need and greatly benefit from Saturn, volcano and Timeless, and spend more.

As I've said here many times before: FabFilter makes some of the best plugs available today. Period. If one had what they call their "FX Bundle" you really wouldn't need anything else except a great Reverb and the occasional single purpose "oddball" plug. With the Pro series, Timeless2 and Volcano your set. Heck...I bet they're working on a "Fab" reverb right now. Go get ya some! You won't be sorry.

Kreative: The Fabfilter line is excellent, especially the Pro line. The Pro-L limiter is wonderfully transparent and is seen by some to be a standard (many users around here compare other limiters against the Pro-L standard); the Pro-Q and Pro-C are leaders in their fields. I own the FX Bundle, but bought it last Christmas during that sale which was before the release of Saturn (so I don't own Saturn). As someone else has pointed out, FF has these sales twice a year (Summer and Christmas). You really should download the free demos and try them out for yourself. CPU Load? In another thread you were concerned about how a tape sim plugin drained CPU on your DAW. Downloading and testing the FF demos would make sure for you that your machine can handle them. They have never been a trouble for me, but I have a newer I7 with 16 gigs of ram. To be honest I don't even recall how heavy they hit my CPU, but given your concerns in that other thread you should demo the plugins to make sure. One last comment not for you but for novices to FabFilter plugins. They are designed for the Pros. They are designed to be used by skilled, experienced persons who have a good understanding of these types of plugins (compressors, limiters, gates, EQs) and how their settings work. Fabfilter provides very few presets for the Pro series line (they do provide more presets for Timeless). Again this is not a problem for persons who already know how to use the plugins and are willing or wanting to start from scratch with EQ or a Limiter or a Compressor. However, if you are looking for a myriad of presets for every possible track senario, then you need to know that these plugins don't come loaded with a lot of presets. [Edited: I have no idea why I wrote this. So I have stricken it out. There are some very good presets for various instruments and mastering/mixing. They are good starting points to get you in the ball park and then you can tweak and adjust to fit your needs. Sorry for this blunder.] Returning to quality, yoropal has summarized it well. "If one had what they call their "FX Bundle" you really wouldn't need anything else except a great Reverb and the occasional single purpose "oddball" plug." My advice? Download the demo, see for yourself, and you will probably buy and use these excellent plugins on many tracks and mixes.

The download page has separate download links for 32bit and 64bit versions. If you did get the right one and it still is trouble, I would re-download and reinstall. It works fine for me.

If they would only pay me in plugins!!! They, unlike my pals at Toontrack, wouldn't know me from "adam's off ox" as we say here, but I AM and probably will always be a "shill" for their "Fab" products. Because they self evidently are:-)

I'm definitely wanting Pro-L, Q and C. Do I need Saturn, Timeless and Volcano? I don't really mangle things much. I've got some decent delays [I bought Ubermod upon Bitflipper's recommendation, he, already owning Timeless]and distortion [Guitar rig Pro 5]. Unless these other plugs are incredibly special, it may save me money towards other toys if I pass on them. I love a great delay, to be sure, and things that are extra specially good at what they do, if they are uniquely qualified to do the job as no other can or will.

A lot of people are making favorable comments about Saturn. Yet, Bitflipper and others have commented negatively about the complexity and relative inaccessibility of Timeless- a plug I've always thought I wanted. In fact, our very own Bitflipper has seemed more amused with UberMod than the mighty Timeless machine. But I do love delays, and look for those that have great potential [and ready to go presets] for useful applications that are creative but not too overly quirky. I realize that Timeless can do much more than the expected, yet it is not for the mangling and bizarre instances of usage that I would want it. I want something that can be used for creative vocals and instrumentation. Has anyone here actually tamed the beast and brought it under control?

Gee...I can kill two birds with one post:-) @Kreative: I use timeless all the time and once you suss out Fab's way of doing things...which isnt that hard (watch some of Dan Worrals tutorials) Timeless is a pussycat. I own many delays and some are easier to use...some even better for very specific tasks...but Timeless2 is the one I could not give up. It is head and shoulders above them all. Don't fear the GUI my friend. @Bapsi: See above.

Well, I held off on getting some other software deals that looked good, but this Fabfilter FX bundle is great and really adds a shine and sparkling finish to everything. And it maintains a very transparent coloration [if you want it to] that brings out the best in the sound. There's so much here to explore beginning with the presets and going from there! This is amazing!

You will probably get all the X1 expanded functionality with the next version of Sonar anyway. I think that is why they are practically giving it away at various intervals at the moment- they want as few people as possible to get it for free at the next upgrade so the people who already bought in don't get too upset. I drunk the Fabfilter KoolAid (got the whole lot)- but only really only use 3 of them on a daily basis- and two of those pro L and Pro Q can be covered by Ozone plugs. They sure do look pretty though.
