Jimmy, thanks for checking out the re-mix...
You're right about the echo tails in places...
I'll work on that and maybe lower the vox track just a bit...
Thanks again...

Dave, I did strip it down a bit on the tag, for contrast...
Maybe I should do more (or less) on the verses...
Thanks for the feedback...

Love the way the voice sets in the mix.  I've been going to try and find a time when I could call you and pick your brain a little on your setup.

Nice harmonies too, on the guitars as well.  Excellent as always.

ps - I'm headed to Gruhns in Nashville this weekend, I'm on a quest for vintage archtop, among the candidates there is 1954 Gibson Super 400C  - acoustic model.  Check it out if you get a chance on their acoustic archtop listing.  It's soooooo gorgeous!

It's pretty fantastic Frank.  I've liked everything I've ever heard from you and this is no exception.

There's something in the low end that sounds boomy.  Punchy is good but boomy is not optimal in my book.

As a pianist, I really wanted to hear the piano more.  This sounds like it should be a piano ballad, but you don't have it mixed that way.  Nevertheless, other than whatever is booming in the low end, this mix sounds utterly fantastic.  And everything's a trade-off.  The piano's certainly a matter of taste.

Great job.

Peace,

Ian

Definately country.   Nice mix, Frank.    He has a splendid warm voice.

I liked this quite a bit, though it certainly is not my usual cuppa.

The mix is a bit heavy in the lower mids, giving it a boxy feel. Not a lot of high end brilliance, which might be used to give more of a full spectrum sound.

Those Queen guitars are terrific!

In the cans (ATH M50) or speakers (JBL 4326), this sounds great. The vocal harmonies spatial arrangement is really nice on  the speakers. All instruments are well defined considering the busy low mids. This is a top notch production Frank. Bravo and kudos to Mr. Wilson for a really nice composition and performance, notably the vocals.

Hey, Frank,

Wow, what a difference 48 hours can make!

The new mix sounds much fuller, really well balanced, and all of the elements sound "glued" together perfectly around Walter's powerful vocals.  It's really astonishing what a difference a couple small changes can make in the overall mix.  This is pro quality!

Really excellent work on this, have a good one, buddy!

A unique voice.  Different than anyone I've heard up here.  Excellent.  I'm on the kinda ok speakers at the warehouse but it sure sounds good, Frank.  A nice song, a nice performance, nice mix and a nice theme.

The vox is so perfectly set in here... The whole thing is mellow and smooth all the way through.... and the harmonies are perfect and just where they should be.

I gotta agree with Dave here - Beagle and this guy would be great together!  :)

Phooey...I read all the first comments and was trying to figure out what problems they were hearing.  As I kept reading I realized you'd posted 2 new mixes.  :-)  Whatever this is sure sounds good to me all around.  Nice!!

The low end is really improved.  Can't really tell a difference in the piano, but it doesn't matter, that's just a matter of mixing taste.  Sounds awesome.

Peace,

Ian

Just FYI - I let your soundclick player play for awhile in the background.  When 'The song that never was' came on, man did my ears pick up.  I thought I was listening to the radio!

A lovely song Frank! The only thing I would change is to bring up the percussion a tad in the verses. Great voice! Thanks
