Greensleeves.

There's a reason it's been played for 500+ years. Simple, beautiful melody.

Then, maybe, Baba O'Riley.

I've never been able to name a favorite song or band.

But I've had "mean old levee, taught me to weep and moan" as well
as the rest of the lyrics on my head all day......finally dawned on me
that my CD player in my office was on loop. Must like it a lot though.

Greetings, Rik

Rik - apparently you are "in cahoots" with bapu.  you have been discovered as an associate of bapsi, and I'm not sure that's the best company to be associated with.  although, looking at the alternatives....

He's the Sherriff in these here parts.  He's very unfunny and he's a bass player who only plays Am.

I'm not sure I have a favorite song of all time. Right now I'm really hooked on Spoonful I listen to it over and over. Other choices would be Bohemian Rhapsody, Band on the Run, Simple Man, Long as I can see the light, Nasty Dogs and Funky Kings.....Just too many, I'll get back to you when I can narrow it down.

A good 15 years ago, Emerson College's radio station (WERS) played the entire Tom Waits album "Closing Time" in morning drive.  That was the first time I heard "Martha" and it has been a favorite ever since.  Great storytelling, deceptively simple piano . . . dang.  Chills every time I hear it.

Think I'll fire up the ipod right now.  Boss won't care.

Re:The Greatest Song Ever Written... AKA - What's you're favourite tune of all time? 2011/06/02 19:43:43 (permalink)
It changes from time to time but... Yesterday comes to mind. I also like Salisbury a lot and I like all of Fragile and Close to the Edge I like The Night they Drove Old Dixie Down Ilike the Eagles Desperado album.
Taxman is very good.

I also love most Bach, Brahams folk songs, and Norman Dello Joio.

I think the best rock band in modern times ie late 80s early 90s andactually current (they have a new album coming out) is Monks of Doom... it is ALL good, but an acquired taste. They are awesome an are an offshoot of Camper Van Beethoven.

I forgot... I really love the Killer album by Alice Cooper.

Please don't ask me what my favorite color is.... but I like play guitar in G and Dm... or most any other key.

Coincidentaly I just did a commercial today for a fellow who calls himself Dr. Duke Tumatoe who plays self-penned raunchy blues tunes and plays about 200 dates a year (these particular dates at a casino we do work for) who was actually a member of the original Lothar and the Hand People.  Go figure.

And Larks Tongues in Aspic Part 2 of course:
This version had fripp, belew, levin, bruford... not a bad line up.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGNcU8Goc5w

I used to listen to Red by KC first thing in the morning every day to wake me up.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4kbkzCdSYw

Same line up.  I love this song about as good as anything ever recorded.  Watch belew - he is having a blast.  I saw them on this tour.
