The Kemper Arrives...
Yup...it's here and boy howdy is it a wonder. This one is an ebay purchase with the kemper gig bag and just over 600 rigs included. So far, in my initial and very cursory test, it's all they say and more. Responds to your playing like an amp, sounds totally amazing and is totally tweakable. Only bummer so far is that I was gonna run it spdif into my MOTU and on into Sonar. But I run both of them at 48k and, apparently, the kemp wants to see only 44.1. Perhaps this will change in a future update. But geeze louise, what a great piece of kit. I'll keep ya posted.

You're going to love it! I run it at 44.1 for the spdif-ness, which is fine for me, but yes, 48k has been on people's wish list for a while.

Now you need to start buying and selling great vintage amps... get one, grab the tone, sell it and get another. Good plan huh? There is a 1963 JTM-45 with the two matching 2x12 cabs on Ebay for a little over 22k, I'd start there. Glad to help!! and congrats!!! J

Glad to read that it's up to your expectations and even better. By a strange turn of events, I recently got back in touch w/ a few old bandmates of mine through Facebook. Besides them making me green w/ envy w/ their respective tube amp collections, we've been having one ongoing discussion about amp tones. I ended up bringing their attention to the Kemper and the Axe FX - in this particular case, examples of attempts at recreating Van Halen's brown sound. I myself was quite surprised w/ the Kemper. Right now, I'm pretty much sold onto a tube Marshall combo. If I had the money, next would likely be a Boogie TA-15 - which I am told is incredibly versatile. After that however, I suppose I could re-consider the Kemper. Anyway, glad you're enjoying yours. Keep us posted.

Yea...Howard's actual last name is Dumble...not dumb bell. Not even sure if he's still around but he was always in pretty poor health. Strangely enough a doctor pal (Gil Johnson) from my home town was...may still be for all I know...Howard's personal doc for many years. I have never been a card carrying member of the Dumble fan club...tho a couple (Larry Carlton and Robben Ford) of my idols are. But yes, there are already Dumble profiles in the Kemper. It's pretty scary.

Congrats myolpay!! I sure am liking the Kemper rack unit. For the last few years Cakewalk has done a good job at saving me money. Maybe it won't be long and I'll know if they are going to change my attitude or if I need to find out if (PT) will inspire me again. As a guitarist (not dealing with recording studio aspects such as yourself) I'm sure attracted to what PT is doing with Eleven- not to mention many other "game changing" changes they are making. Interested to see how Cake handles/addresses or doesn't address such things because it does effect other choices such as hardware...as I prefer minimal hardware useage the integration with the host is very cool and hard for me to ignore.

The guy that I bought the KPA from also had an Eleven rack which he was selling. He said he'd heard they were discontinuing it. Go figure. Next up is getting the 12 or so profiles I yearn for from the amp factory. And when I get the new room set up downtown...profiling my Egnater. Whoo hoo!

Hey Olpal, I have a question. From my brief readings it sounds like the profiling process is to simply record your amp with a mic. or D/I. If this is true, I'm wondering if a recording of an amp would be enough to create a profile. I have access to a huge number of cool vintage amps and guitars, so could I sample them and send the wav files to Kemper owners to use as profiles?
Regards, John I want to make it clear that I am an Eedjit. I have no direct, or indirect, knowledge of business, the music industry, forum threads or the meaning of life. I know about amps. WIN 10 Pro X64, I7-3770k 16 gigs, ASUS Z77 pro, AMD 7950 3 gig, Steinberg UR44, A-Pro 500, Sonar Platinum, KRK Rokit 6

John, there is a two-stage process to profiling an amp (incidentally, you actually profile the whole signal chain, so if you want to use a stompbox up front, that gets included in the final profile, as does the microphone you use to make the profile). The first part is to connect your Kemper to the input of the amp (or the first point of the signal chain). You then mic up the amp's speaker as you would normally, but in this case, the mic outputs back to the Kemper. The Kemper then sends a series of audio patterns and frequencies through the amp and analyses them back through the microphone. To fine tune the profile, you can then plug your guitar into the Kemper and strum a few chords - this signal is also sent through the amp and back into the Kemper via the mic. A lot of the rig profiles available (some free *, some are charged for) take advantage of the fact that the complete signal chain is profiled. An amp can be hooked up to different speaker cabinets, and the character of each cab is profiled with the amp. As I've already mentioned, you can use different mics, and different mic settings, and even use signal processing. Each channel on the amp, and various combinations of drive/EQ etc can each be profiled independently too. The Kemper itself has an impressive bank of stomps and effects built in, plus the unit itself has all the usual parameters (Drive/EQ etc) available on the front panel to tweak any profile. You can even dig down a lot deeper and start changing parameters like Power Sagging and Tube Bias in your profiles. * There are 170 pages of Users' profiles HERE, all free to download and use.

How big a bath did the guy who sold the keeper take after the ebay fee? Seems like the average loss on the buy it now sales is close to $500 after ebay's 10% cut and the ones that sell at bid, sell for much lower than that. Seeing that so the many guys are losing $500 on a nearly new piece of gear makes me wonder what they know that I don't know. Edited for spelling and grammar.
