The Key to a Good Orchestral Sound
I just thought I'd throw this out there: Staccato string parts get eighth notes

And all this time I thought staccatto was an articulation and not a note value.

I always order the marcato at Starbucks. Are we talking how to orchestrate a good string part for real players, or how to realistically simulate one with orchestral synths (not quite the same thing).

I'm not sure... but start with really good samples, or hire an orchestra would be my guess. The nuances in teh sounds are what makes it sound real. Straight up midi will sound like midi even with good samples..... but without good samples, it's really hard to emulate a true orchestra sound.

All the staccato sounds in my sample set are oblivious to the note length they're set to. 8th, 16th, full measure - makes no difference whatsoever, unless they overlap in time, in wihch case you shrink 'em up so you can see what's going on in the prv (just good MIDI practice surely?)
