this recording was done at lazeria studios outside of atlanta georgia, in 1982. the band i was in, was off the road for 2 weeks, and we rented the studio to rehearse in. this jam happened late at night after a rehearsal i used an Ibanez artist, thru a '81 mesa boogie mark2b, and a marshall cab, with a microphone about 18" away from the grille... the engineer in the studio, threw up mics while we jammed, and then gave us headphones, and all those effects on the guitar (delay, pitch transposer) he put on as we mixed, and i just played to whatever effect he put on as it actually happened... this was done with my 'original' 79 ibanez 2619. i eventually sold in '84, had ALWAYS regretted, and scored a '77 2618 this past summer, to replace it. 1980, jax florida, with 2619: new 2618 i just got:

morenoise thanks man... yes, it was a fun night. lots of hasish. a bit of wine. and man, was it loud!! LOL bass player was in the booth with the engineer, i was out in the big room with the amp wide open, drummer behind 3 gobos... notnat thanks for checking it out. vechung thanks man. you know, lots of folks mention that use of the pitch transposer, and mention steve vai at the same time, but this was many years before he ever hit the scene.... the bass player liked that pitch transposer so much, he bought one for his bass rig. it sounded awesome live, and i've never heard another unit sound so nice and analog. it did have some latency, but the sound was so warm...back then, it was like a synth on guitar.

thanks mgh.... yes, this was an ancient MXR Pitch transposer, a rack mounted affair, that not many people had at the time.... yes, it was a fun night. lots of hasish. a bit of wine. and man, was it loud!! CreatingNoise thanks for listening! yep, that was about as off the cuff as it gets..... we had been playing together for about a year at this point, so we had that connection between us to pull off stuff like this out of the clean blue. monkfish ah, the poor man's lobster! what a great tasting fish, why monkfish? so, thanks for listening, and i'm glad you dig it. tell you buddy to try spreading the jam on his lady's belly. ;-) bob thanks for checking this one out.. i know it's just 'a jam', but it fell together in one of those complete moments... or maybe that was the drugs?! LOL...either way, it was fun. giankap appreciate it ioannis

I've got a picture of me from 1973 that would look great beside yours! Pretty slick for a late night jam. We used to rack up free studio time back then, now I have and endless supply of studio time in my house. How times change. You had a nice backing groove to work off too. Nice archive. Daryl

Some seasoned garage jamming here with sweet freshness and excellence. I did 4 minutes (my limit of late). I love the organish fx's, the incremental build-up with the groove and percussives. This, for my ongoing listen ... would be better for a road-trip then the living room ... to help with my driving ... as I seriously love this genre. It transports me to the Southern Jam of the late 70's, where we'd party, etc. Your band is/was most awesome! I suppose it would've been better if the drummer was seperately recorded (for this era's tastes) ... to hear every kick, tap, etc.

Well, there's one I haven't heard. Some nice bass work. I don't have to say anything about your guitars, they're always great. The bass tone is totally great and the player has some moves. I would love to jam like that again. Great stuff, Rob.

north idaho thanks man, i guess for that time, it was pushing the boundry of rock and funk. i mean, we had been playing a lot of mothers finest, and brothers johnson, funkadelic, old school r&b, but i was listening to a lot of brand x. LOL scotty thanks for listening to this oldie goldie. i've used a few of the riffs here and there, from this jam, to write songs around... the complexity part, comes from the drummer and mine's interest in more jazzy stuff... and the bass player just totally dialed into that, we could play any polyrhythm, and he'd find a smooth groove right over the top of it. it was a fun period of time for learning philip hehe, 4 minutes eh, you missed the best part then... but that's cool, i dig that you listened to this at all. i mean, it IS as bit different, but it was a very 'organic' and natural jam. this band lasted from '81 to '85. and yes, i wished the drummer had been better mixed, but this was mixed live down to cassette, there were no multitracks going at the time... this mix is the only mix that exists. thanks again for listening warren- hehe, i've got a BUNCH you ain't heard! but, for the masses, it's kinda hard to push instrumental jams, you know how it is. so i just sit on them. glad you liked this one, maybe i'll throw a file together one day, with all my more experimental stuff on it. i've got at least 20 older songs that are more progressive, that i never did anything with, in my search for writing more 'accessible' material, i let them all fall to the wayside. but in retrospect, i've got some way cool riffs in a lot of them, i should go back and review, and cannabalize. LOL

This is a great Jam! Some crazy guitar antics, especially for the time period. You where a bit ahead of your time I think. Wish the drums where a little more pronounced, but other than that the sound quality is excellent! Your Bass player is awesome!

black haus thanks man. yeah, the jam touches on progressive.. the drummer was quite a talent, he had played with professional salsa bands in puerto rico before he came to the states... the drums do need to be louder in the mix. it was just a quick setup for mics, and recorded thru the board straight to cassette, so there was never any tracks to mix, and therefore the drums got buried as the jam continued. i would have loved to had this on multitrack! here's vid, a more recent vid, of the bass player quentin doing his thing.... http://www.myspace.com/video/vid/38625392#pm_cmp=vid_OEV_P_P

That was fun to listen to.... Very impressive chops and really cool effects. And the recording - not bad at all for an impromptu live performance in 1980. It's like a trip down memory lane of that good old rock fusion. I grew up on that stuff...Back then it was all over the place. Great stuff - your guitar tone is excellent.

janet you should pick up a guitar EVERY day! LOL thanks for listening, glad you enjoyed it. mostly just wanking, tho..... guitartrek thanks man... that guitar was cranked... i had the boogie set pretty clean, but real loud... just enough edge and mids to get that sustain.. and just rolling the volume knob up and down depending on the sound. twisted6s thanks for checking this out... and yes, quentin is a badd ass player... he turned me on to the brothers johnson, i turned him onto jaco. his bass rig on this jam, was an Alembic Omega, straight into the soundboard.
