The Moderns - No Suffering
Our band The Moderns has been around for a long time, but took a lot of time off due to careers, family, and other obligations. We now all live in different states but are in a place where we can now record many of our songs, new and old, that have never been recorded. No Suffering is an old song, dating back to the late 70s when we were playing shows in the SE and based at Auburn University. Basic tracks were recorded in NYC during a live performance, additional vocal and guitar parts were added. All mixed and produced with Sonar. We are now working on a new full album, all done with each of us in remote places trading tracks and ideas back and forth from Sonar files. No Suffering as well as older releases (3 albums) can be found on spotify, the spotify artist uri is spotify:artist:4nd4G4TU1isvmNoYzX5qig No Suffering can also be found on itunes, amazon, beats, and many other outlets. The song url on youtube music is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-sDbx_U6as

Fun tune, nice arrangement. Love the 80's vibe. I think the snare became a little samey as you went along, which, alas, is also part of the 80's vibe, isn't it. Vocals are well done, especially the background stuff moving around. nice one! cheers, -Tom

Thanks! Yea the snare and drums in general were a bit of a bear. That part was all done from a live performance, the real drums had a ton of bleed from everything, vocals guitars, etc., so did a bit of triggering of AD drums and it was a real challenge to get it where it is. Yes, the vocals came out great, those were overdub'd, but they were done in a very small apartment with traffic noise and all sorts of problems. But they came out pretty good. It's fun doing these things in different locations and just working with what you have. gabo

This has a nice throw back New Wave-ish sound (maybe with hints of the Jam?). Good vocals and I love the style on the lead break guitar. Nice one.

This is a cool song with a good mix. Considering the challenges of recording in a noisy apartment, you pulled this off quite well. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Lynn. It's taken me a lot of time and work to get where I am on using sonar but it's been worth it. Still a lot more to learn, looking forward to the rest of the new album and future albums. Yes that is a great song. The songwriter of the band, Paul, is an excellent writer. He's written thousands of songs, 3 books, and no telling how many poems and short stories. Writing is what he does. CedricM, not sure what the problem you're having is. I checked the link and it still seems to work for me and obviously has worked for others as well. There could also have been a problem with youtube at the time you tried. If all else fails, give it a try in spotify if you have it (free for pcs, macs, iphones, android, etc.). Copy the spotify uri listed above and paste in the search bar on spotify. Thanks, gabo

Still not working in YouTube. Did you add country restrictions? I'm based in France. I downloaded Spotify it works there. I'm a sucker for good guitar melodies so personnally I would have brought it more to the forefront! To my unprofessional ears the mix sounds good.

CedricM, thanks for that. Yea our guitar player would agree with you! haha. I don't know of any country restrictions, but that doesn't mean they're not there. I use a 3rd party service (distrokid) that puts the tunes up on all the various sites. Not sure how they get uploaded but I can check and see if I can find any info. gabo
