The Remembering

This song is in memory of my Dad who passed away last week. I'd already been working on this because I knew it was coming.

The song started as an experiment in underscore, building up layers using Orbit. The bell/synth sounds are from Hideaway Studios. There is also a bunch of Omnisphere, plus several tracks of my strat.

Just would like to add that this is not a sad song, but rather a song to remind us to remember the good things of our lost loved ones. I'm quite sure my Dad would not have liked it...to much rock for him, lol.

Regards,
Dan

My condolences on the death of your father Dan. This is a beautiful piece. You chose the synth sounds well, just right for the melodies. Love how this builds so well, and the arrangement evolves with it. Very nice indeed.

    Love that thought Dan.
I really like this one - I hope you don't mind me saying but it takes me right back to the eighties when I was tinkering with synths - shades of Ultravox, OMD, early Depeche Mode......

    Dan,

Sorry to hear about your loss.   I think your dad would have liked it simply because you did it with him in mind.  That outweighs it all...

Really good listen, your soundscapes and sense of space and depth are always stellar, no exception here.   Really good song.

Love the chugging strat rhythms, love the crystal clarity of the mix. I also really like the many different rhythms that come and go. It certainly evolves.

I think there's a pop/click at :15 when a layer of some kind comes in.

OMD is a nice reference, they had some cool stuff for sure.

the Bandcamp version just kind of ends abruptly, which might be entirely intentional given your motivation for the piece, I think I get it. Very sorry for your loss.

    Thanks for the listen Tom!

The pop is in the attack of the synth. You can hear it elsewhere if you go looking for it. Maybe I should have rolled off the attack some, but it doesn't really bother me. Well it didn't...lol.

Yes, the song does end abruptly...on purpose.

Like the others, I'm very sorry for your loss, Dan.
Very nice song. I love the stereo interplay, and the way the song builds in a long crescendo. I can feel the good times you were reflecting on when you wrote this. It's very present in the music. It's a wonderful tribute to your dad. Whether he'd have liked the music or not, he would have loved it, because of the effort and love his son put into it to honor him. Nice job Dan.

Sorry for your loss, Dan.  But at least it sounds like you have some good memories to keep.

And I also do hear some of that in this tune.  It sort of travels as it goes along, moving in and out of different sounds and melodies.   Well constructed, layered, and mixed.

Incredibly nice soundscape. Love how well the music takes the listener on a meditative journey.  So sorry for your loss.  I did the same thing when my Dad passed away. Back then I was using Cakewalk's MC4. I haven't listened to it in quite some time so I just looked up how long ago it was when I finally published it. ( Sun Feb 08, 2009 )

Sorry for your loss, Dan.  But at least it sounds like you have some good memories to keep.

And I also do hear some of that in this tune.  It sort of travels as it goes along, moving in and out of different sounds and melodies.   Well constructed, layered, and mixed.

    Thanks Steve!

    Nice work!

    Thanks James!

Knowing all of the elements that went into this one I am amazed at how well you put it all together. Also makes me want Omnisphere :)

I think it sounds very cheery. Definitely not a sad song. I like the theme that runs through it. Excellent synth beds. The guitar is a great addition. Nice soft mix. As always, excellent work!
