The Sony Magix transition.
I wonder if those of us who have older versions of Soundforge or Vegas will ever get an upgrade deals again? I went to the new Vegas site and there is no upgrade pricing. Vegas 13 is $599. So eventually if you are a Soundforge user there is the possibility of looking for a new wave editor. Since Izotope seems to be working hard at trying to get everyone into their products, what do they have for audio editing that's similar to Soundforge. Anyone use Wavelab? I hate Steinberg's licensing. What's the frontier like for audio editors? I could never use Audacity. Soundforge ruined that.

I'm still waiting to see what they are doing with Vegas since I get the free upgrade. They've not released any screenshots from it or anything and it comes out this month. Either way, I got Vegas Pro 13 for $200 so good deal there even if 14 is rubbish.

There is a post on the magix forum that gives info on v14. It appears to be just some format additions and a couple of updated features though. Likely not much that I will find useful. There is no telling about soundforge or any of the audio apps though. Magix has been strangely silent about the audio shtuff.

That's the way it is with most video editors. I'd love it if they do something with Acid Pro. They wouldn't have to do much other than make it 64bit and add a piano roll tab. It's still a decent DAW. That thing still runs on W10.

Soundwise Granted you considered Adobe Audition as well, take a look at this little gem http://www.magix.com/us/audio-cleaning-lab/audio-music-lab-premium/ I don't know what your needs for a wave editing are, but try a demo version. You might be surprised. (Or not)
In what way is this superior to Reaper? Hey Soundwise I couldn't resist That does look very good , I've been using Magix Audio Cleaning Lab and variants for about 10 years now ... The last one I purchased was the 2014 Premium version ..only 2 tracks ..nor 4 like this... IMHO , very underrated software ....I use it all the time .. have a good one , Kenny

I love Sound Forge, and for the little bit of video work I do I find Vegas to be pretty easy to use. I am not, however, a big fan of Sony, and I have reservations about Magix. I'm still using Sound Forge 9, but I'm spending most of my audio editing time in Wavelab, trying to become as comfortable and efficient as I am in Sound Forge... I just don't feel optimistic that Magix is going to help out long time customers (and I've been using SF since V3!)

I tinkered with Acid for a while. It worked good for loops but the midi stuff seemed extremely lacking. Coupled with some off-the-cuff or half-assed support responses, I decided to leave it behind and come back home. :) wst3 I love Sound Forge, and for the little bit of video work I do I find Vegas to be pretty easy to use.
While I haven't had any particular need for SoundForge, it seems to have a really strong following. I'm surprised that Magix doesn't seem to care about it. Maybe they are focusing on the upcoming release of Vegas and will start on SF later. <shrugs>

Did you have a current account with Sony Creative Software? http://www.sonycreativeso...sell-products-to-magix I did and received an email from Sony covering the account transition to Magix. I have been eligible for years on upgrades from old versions of Acid, Sound Forge, & Vegas Pro. It looks like Magix will honor them. You probably just need to sign into your account. Edit: just tried signing into my Sony account at http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/prd/home.aspx and found my software listed under My Account > My Software, where my serial numbers and download links are still available. The download links still appear to be live. Further down that page it lists my upgrade entitlements. But when I click on any upgrade link it redirects me to the Magix product page without adding anything to the cart. The only link I can find there is to add the full priced product to the cart. There is a spot provided in the cart to enter a coupon code. Maybe a phone call could obtain an upgrade coupon???

Fleer Abaca(b)dabra!
Nice play on Magi(c)x Soundwise
FWIW, abacaba stands for rondo.
That's good info Sounds somewhat related to Mike Rutherford's (Genesis) explanation: "There were three bits of music in 'Abacab', and we referred to them as 'section a', 'section b', and 'section c'... and at different times, they were in different order. We'd start with 'section a' and then have 'section c'... and at one point in time, it spelled Abacab. On the final version, it's not that at all, it's like 'Accaabbaac'." Let's see if we can hear it in this performance Live at Wembley Stadium ... https://www.youtube.com/w...amp;list=RDGDPKKrvYU6w

I got an email from Magix stating I could upgrade my current version Platinum 12 to 13 for ~ $60 and then get their version 14 free when it is released. Based on the above, I'm not certain I'm gaining a whole lot...

Based on the above, I'm not certain I'm gaining a whole lot... It depends what you're looking for. The biggest things they seem to be changing are support for H.265 and MPEG-H which for people who film professional video is needed and new hardware support. Seems like minor changes but something tells me they are bigger than I think they are. I'm hoping for tool and interface changes but they will likely be minor. Since Magix took over, they will want to keep changes to a minimum because they don't want to scare people off with new features they may not want and stick to focusing on core things that are highly demanded and can be implemented easily and without error. I have a feeling Sony had nothing to do with this update other than pulling some of the team so they likely had very little time to do much. So long as they keep up with the program and make it better over time with new features like Sonar does, I'll be happy. The only thing I've really wanted to see changed is a bit of modernization on the interface and tools but other than that, not much really needs to be changed since it works very well.
