The Sunday Report (on monday)

Although X2 is pretty darn stable and I've now used it on many projects it still, on my system at least, has some constant, recurring...and wacky...bugs.

First, when I select a group of clips that I wish to bounce to a single clip I most always get the "your vst count has exceeded..." dialog popping up first.  I click through that and then get the proper dialog from which I can select "bounce to clip".

Second, my undo editor does not either recall or name properly my last edits.  In other words, say I copy and paste something to a track but I then don't like what I did and want to undo the paste.  The undo dialog won't even show an "undo paste" or anything like it...even tho it was the last action I took.  Plus, as I've tried this just to see what happens, If I simply choose to undo whatever it says WAS the last action...it will undo the paste anyway.

Third...and most frustrating...I very frequently, and seemingly randomly, lose my vertical line cursor.  I can click on, say, the beginning of a clip and X2 will indeed start playback there...but I cant see that it's actually at that point because there's no vertical line to show me.  The only way to get it back is to close out X2 and reopen.  This one is a true pain.

There are other little niggles but I mostly just ignore them.  You???

I have noticed the problem with undo not naming the undo step properly.

Once in a while I loose the vertical line cursor as well.  I wonder where that "B" patch is?

I must say that I have had much less trouble with this version of Sonar than I did X1.

    Hi ol pal,
The one that bit me this weekend was the clip grouping behavior. Try this:

Grab some clips on different tracks and group them. I usually do this for two tracks of an acoustic guitar that I've mic'd with a spaced pair or somesuch. Now edit one of the clips in the group without having either clip selected (highlighted) first. On my system it only edits one of the clips. If any clip in the group is highlighted first it works fine, but remembering to select a clip before doing a slip edit or fade or whatnot is problematic.

Other than that I'm pretty stable though and I'm generally pretty happy with X2...I actually haven't seen the symptoms you've mentioned...I'm counting myself fortunate.

Not trying to hijack but if I'm reading your post correctly you can group clips and then edits performed on one clip will appear on the other grouped clips from that point forward? I've tried grouping clips up one side and down the other for this behavior and have never gotten it to work as I expect. I just end up making a normal selection of multiple clips when I want to do a group edit. Maybe there's a video that shows this. I Know the feature has been around for awhile but I just figured I misunderstood the premise or it didn't work.

To come back around to the topic, I have only been using X2 for a little more than a month so I haven't done a ton projects from start to finish but I have done quite a bit of mixing (usually 5 days a week or more). I've seen the edit list error where the undo action is misnamed on a couple occasions. I have not lost my vertical cursor ever. When this happens the project can play normally and the track view follows the playback correctly but there's no vertical cursor?

    Hi wmb,
Yep, that's how it works, just select a few clips, right click, choose "make selection group" and any edits you make to one member of the group get applied to all of them...assuming that you have clicked on one of the constituent clips to select it first.

...and some of us have so many issues/problems that we feel we can't get X2b soon enough! ;-)

    Don't get me wrong...

I'm working with X2a and managing to get my work done with a lot of extra cursing as well as clicking and dragging... and it's no less stable than any previous X (for me), but with all it's bugs and issues, 8.5.3 was more stable and faster for me to work with....

...and after two+ years of working with X(x), it's not that I don't know my way around... It's just slower for me...

Alas... I feel if there is an X2b release (never certain and less so these Roland years) it will probably not be for at least another 1-2 months being half-year since 2's release and (they) likely hoping that is the last before X3 (are we really following this new naming procedure?)

My crystal ball says the days of free fixes have past. I think the next offering will be a paid update because so many people are really happy with X2 and there are very few complaints.

With Roland at the helm there will be no more buy 1 get 2 free updates. Of course I don't know for sure, I'm just going with my personal experiences with Roland.

As to VS-700 and other hardware, I've never had a Roland hardware update. I think it's on it's way to Father O'Malleys home for abandoned hardware.

Next you're going to tell me is that there's another way to turn the lights on and off besides unscrewing them!

What!?!?!? That, sir, is crazy talk. I mean, that would take some kind of space-age switchy thingy and you'd have to somehow mount them on every wall. I mean, maybe in some kind of Jetsons-esque Utopian future, but until we have flying cars I'm not holding my breath. No, in the mean time, I'll be unscrewing light bulbs and burning the crap out of my fingers in the traditional way like god intended.

I would guess that the next update X2b would not be a paid "upgrade", since X1 had as many and more updates.  These problems are merely bug fixes and need to be ironed out, although I am not, so far (knock on wood), experiencing them as much as some folks are...

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left...

I believe they're referring to the play cursor, not the AIM assist...

It disappears on me at times as well and only closing/re-opening Sonar brings it back...

Thanks ohgrant, ol pal.  I hadn't tried that.  I'll give er a shot next time it happens.

and @chuckebaby, it's the now time cursor not the aim assist and, yep, it just flat goes away. all the dang time.
