The Sunday Report...Supplemental...X1C!
Even tho I've had X1C for sometime now I haven't really done anything to stretch it at all until this weekend (two beds for a big steakhouse chain). In my piddlin around with X1C it seemed that a lot of the kinks, at least as far as my system was concerned, had been worked out. And I thought most all of the "wacky" anomalies that were so frequent had been eradicated. But, sadly, I'm afraid that's not the case. Now that I've been seriously working the ol girl she's hung up on me just as much as she used to, shown that the anomalies are still there (I still have notes showing in the PRV only about half the time) and even has some new ones to boot. One is that now I've got a lag of about 2 to 3 seconds after I click the record button on a track to when the button actually engages. This is constant and on every audio track I did. Another is that now "bounce to clip" takes much longer than it used to on every clip bounced. Who knows I could discover more? At one point as I was working on adding a fill to a guitar track I noticed that my drums weren't playing anymore. So I popped open their (EZDrummer) track folder and on each track of individual drums the meters were randomly bouncing from zero to full bore and back...it was quite a light show...but no sound. Had to close her down and restart to get back to normal. Had a few crashes that were caused by some conflict with Amplitube 3. You know the drill. Wished I had a better report, I honestly do. But, at least for me, ol X1C is still a few bricks shy of a load. YMMV.

That just should not be. I know moral support doesn't help when you are actually working for money. I really hope things get running smooth soon for you. From looking at your sig, I don't think you should be having problems. Someone should be jumping through hoops to get your problem figured out... at least that is what I think. You've obviously spent some money on HW and you are no beginner so this should not be your experience. Julien

Sorry to hear of your problems. I had the laggy Record Arm issue when SONAR 8 was released. It turned out to be related to my driver for my audio interface. I was using a new beta driver, but when I told Cake about it they fixed that issue in the next update to SONAR 8. So, my point is, have you updated the driver for your audio interface recently? If you have, maybe rolliing back to an older driver will solve that Arm Record issue. Also it was said that the number of input drivers you have enabled in SONAR may have an affect on the Record Arm issue, the word was the fewer the better. Can't speak to the other issues you mentioned, but goodluck in resolving those.

yorolpal Thanks for the reply John, ol pal. I'm off to do some deleting. What's the theory behind this helping solve any of my issues? It's unlikely but a duff read/write operation causing one or some of the cached files to be corrupt could cause issues. I've never had a problem with clearing that folder completely, but it's never solved anything for me either. I clear it out every now and then anyway, maybe once a month or so.

What's weird about the record "lag" problem is that is was only on those two projects today...which were esentially the same project as I built a sixty second bed from the thirty second bed. I was just back into X1C recording some free form piano to test the Softube TSAR1 reverb and it didn't lag at all. On the Picture Cache issue I'll have to admit I don't think I've ever emptied out of any version of Sonar I've had on any computer. I imagine on some there were jillions of WOV files laying needlessly around...I am such a dimbulb.

I'm still curious about the notes not showing in the PRV problem. Did you ever get any closer to figuring out a pattern to it? I know we already discussed the show / hide keybinding. Is this the full-fat PRV, or the in-line one?

Full fat. It's really funny. The first time I enter the PRV (and no matter what method I use to enter it) there are no notes showing. If I then hit "D" and close the PRV and then, say double click the lower half of a clip/track to re-enter it...there all the notes are. It's just a piddling nusance. But troublesome nonetheless. PS: I did delete my Picture Cache Lance and I'll keep ya posted on any tangible results I see from it. I'm sure I needed to do it...as I never have;-)

It sounds like maybe in some cases you are opening the PRV with the Now time in an area of the track with no events in it.

There is a default setting for the size of the Picture Cache folder. Once it's full SONAR takes care of deleteing the oldest ones first. You don't HAVE to delete all the files at all it's just that occassionally one will get corrupted and seeing as it's nigh on imppossible to find that ONE it's just as quick to empty the folder completely as SONAR quite happily rebuilds the pictures that represent the wave files. Watching the other issue with interest.

Nope...I thought of that when this first started happening. I'm always right where I intend in the track. But that's a good suggestion.

Ol Pal, there are some plugins that introduce some bad lag "while recording" if they are on the master bus. Is it possible this project (the 30/60s) have one of those - did you try turning off your master bus plugins just to check if that changed your lag thing? Also - the pic cache usually doesn't have to be deleted manually - BUT sometimes it does, which could happen from crashes, etc. It does help as a debugging tool (ie, delete the wovs, etc) as Sonar will redraw them fresh as needed. So no harm in deleting them. But only do it if you suspect a problem. as in this case.

Jim Roseberry I had the laggy Record Arm issue when SONAR 8 was released. It turned out to be related to my driver for my audio interface. +1 I've experienced that lag with some audio interfaces (ie: M-Audio FTU/8R units. I've been using an M-Audio Fast Track Ultra with 8.0 ~ X1c. Never saw this problem until I X1 c. It happens when I arm a track for recording and when I turn input echo on. RPITA

Yup...I've been down that road too Billy, ol pal. The weird thing about this was it was happening when there were no plugs at all on the master buss. And it didn't get any worse after all my finalizing plugs WERE on the master. Go figure.

I just tried it on a new empty project in X1c x86 and X1c x64. It does it on both x86 and x64 when you click Input Echo and Record Arm on Audio tracks. It doesn't do it on Midi tracks.

Sounds like a memory problem are you using a good build of memory? Or is the combination of parts that you have in your computer causing it to lag? You need to be hundred percent sure on what you are using your computer for if it's high tech games than have a powerful computer if its music simplistic and powerful is best. Try not to over complicate things my ol pal? simples TSK!
