The Walking Dead is a great show. Unfortunately I don't get AMC. They had a free preview of it on while the first season was running and shut it off the day before the season finale aired. Doh!

There's a new show that's only in to the second episode called Torchwood: Miracle Day. It's about something that happens to mankind in an instant all over the planet that prevents people from dying ... no matter what happens to you, but everyone keeps aging. Looks like you can watch the first episode online. That's awful nice of them. I don't get Starz either, but they have a free preview for a year. Hopefully I'll catch the end of this series.

Torchwood--Miracle Day is a US version of the British series that was a spin-off of Dr. Who.  Going by the photo, it looks like they've kept two of the British stars (the two on the right).

I like the Brit version, I'll see if I can check out the Starz series.

Technically, its not a US version. It just had a lot of US money thrown at it so most of the story was set in the US to make it appeal to the US audience. A lot of it is still shot in Wales.   That's Wales, England.  Not North Wales, PA

They didn't "keep" two of the British stars, they are simply the remaining two characters left of the Torchwood Institue as all the rest were killed off saving the world in the last series.  And Gwen's husband is still in it as a main character.

What a fun show.... If you missed the first season, it is available on Netflix.

Try as I might I was never able to see how it started..... so I rented the DVD.... solved.

Looking forward to the next season....  surely by now... the zombies should all be decomposed and dead for real.... but if there's a season 4..... obviously not.

BTW: Just in case you're wondering if zombies are real...... there are quite a few NATIONS in the world, including the USA from what I have heard that actually have a "Zombie attack contingency plan" in place.... I wonder what it is that they know........ hummmmmm.

I guess we better stock up on 100w bulbs and 9mm ammo.

I've been there (N. Wales PA) ... not much to see.

That dude on the far right of the picture in the Torchwood ad ... he really creeps me out. He has very unique facial features.

Haven’t been a big zombie / walking dead fan in several years.  There are some zombie related cartoons I am trying to keep the kids from watching and I wouldn’t be able to justify turning off the cartoons if they caught me watching Night of the Living Dead.

Torchwood looks interesting and completely coincidently, I just finished ordering a cable package for my new home which includes Starz in their basic package (up to this point I’ve just had basic cable) ... so, I'll check it out.

I’m more into the goofy scifi / science-y stuff and one of my favorites for the last couple of years now has been Eureka on SyFy.

The problem I have with the TV series is that I tend NOT to be a big TV watcher, so I miss a lot of the shows that are on.

So if I really want to see them, I have to do the DVD or streaming at a later, more convenient time..... and even then it's hard to do....

We're the same way Herb. We have a DVR and record everything and then skip the commercials. Sunday nights are usually TV night here if the wife is home. When she's gone for a work trip I never even turn the TV on. She'll be gone the whole month of August. Should be interesting.

I miss ALL the TV shows, at least until 4 or 5 years later and then I get them from Netflix.

The advantages of waiting until they come out on disk is you already have an idea if they're any good, you don't have to sit through commercials, and you don't have to wait a week for cliffhanger resolutions.

We're currently enjoying True Blood, a surprisingly entertaining chick-centric romantic vampire drama. Lots of dark humor, quirky characters and icky moments. Recommended.

Other suggestions for great TV series I haven't seen yet are welcome!

    Hi Bit,

I see your point.  I do that with some shows.  I do enjoy "discovering" a new show once in a while too.

I like Burn Notice and Psych on USA Network.  I'm a few seasons behind on them because I don't currently have USA.  I also like many of the shows on BBC America:  Being Human, Life On Mars, Survivors, Torchwood, Ashes To Ashes--a spin off of Life On Mars.  Most of those are done.  Primeval, Luther, Top Gear, and Outcasts are about to run.

    Have fun,
    Jan

I bet there's nothing wrong with North Wales, PA.

It was just a failed attempt at double humour.
    1) Pointing out that there is another Wales outside of the US
    2) Expecting an angry response from Welsh members that Wales is NOT in England

I guess we don't have anyone here from Wales.

Your humour wasn't lost on me.  I was just trying to return it.  Maybe it was my failure.  I was partially serious in asking--just in case you were aware of something about North Wales, PA.  II grew up in New Jersey, but I never heard of NW, PA.  I certainly didn't hear anything good or bad about it.  PA is a large state, so it could be in the western end near Pittsburgh and that would explain why I might not have heard about it.

Bub said there wasn't much to see in NW, PA.  It must be a small, quiet town then.

I have no idea why the Welshmen haven't been heard from.  I don't think I'd call that a failure, either.

+1 and then some for True Blood.  As for recommendations ... don't know what you've already seen.  If Dexter isn't among those shows, put it at the top of the list.  And if you didn't watch Friday Night Lights from the start, it's all available now on DVD ... this is one of the best dramas to ever appear on television.

And if you missed Everwood, make up for that.  This "family" drama is totally engaging.  The final season has yet to be made available on DVD, but it's supposedly due in August of this year.

Let's see ... so many good shows.  Treme, Boardwalk, Six Feet Under, The Tudors, The Borgias, Rome (HBO two season drama ... may have the name wrong on this one), and of course, when it's available A Game of Thrones.

There was?  Which version of Torchwood was that?  Is it the Starz show or something on DVD that didn't get broadcast on BBC-America?  The main character that John Barrowman plays is something of an omnisexual.  He'll hit on just about anything that moves.  Sometimes it's creepy and sometimes it's fun, but I haven't seen anything that explicit.  Sorry if I mis-lead you into watching something you didn't want to see, Bub.

My daughters have gotten into watching one of those ER shows... (I forget the name.... I never watched it) ... it's based in Seattle I think.... and everybody on the show is doing everybody else on the show at some point.  There is over 130 episodes... and they are working their way from episode 1 all the way up.... they are getting near the end now.....

Well ... looks like I won't be watching Torchwood anymore. Men on men nudity isn't my thing. And that was only half the problem.

It was the 3rd episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day on Starz.

I guess they could do that because it was cable.  Sorry about that, Chief.  I don't get Starz, so it will be a while before I see any of it.  I may skip that 3rd episode, then.
