Yeah... doubling up here too. I'll keep both on for a while until I see everyone here is content with it and I can wrap my head around the new stuff.

What about the boxed versions ?? Anyone know when they will ship ?? Before/after the download becomes available ??

I'm not going to bother with the downloads, I'll wait till the disks get here and do a direct install off of them then.

CW has nothing to worry about with enthusiastic users like you guys.

Its very refreshing to read a thread like this. It sure beats the alternative. Just keep on doing what you all were doing.

Expect the boxed version to ship after the download becomes available. CW has yet to announce the shipping date.

@John... If it lives up to the demos and webinar it certainly is something to be enthusiastic about. It really does seem to be what X1 should have been plus they tossed on some extra awesomesauce. Looks like it will solve pretty much any weirdness I've encountered with X1... mainly the take and automation lanes. The upgrade price is quite nice too. Right where I wanted it.

As much as I am in on the pre-release purchase.... I am going to wait a few days to download and install to hear the feedback on stability of the core products.... I have had too many issues with new CAKE releases to jump right in.

Well if it were up to me you and the rest would be getting it free simply because you make this forum a much more pleasant place.

Without you guys it would be limited to posters finding fault, complaining about no firm date and so on.

You can see it starting already in some threads.

What is so cool about your enthusiasm is its catching. Its a nice karma you all bring to the forum.

You all have made a real impression on me.

@John... We were told end of September. To me that means September 30th. If it comes earlier cool. Frankly though, and I said this before, I'd rather them let it bake another week or so into october if need be instead of getting a rushed release. Sounds like they are on track though and perhaps ahead of schedule. Oh and I am a crusty curmudgeon but I don't find fault where there is no fault to be found. It's not good for the soul... or anything for that matter. CW just hasn't given me anything in particular to complain about. But I agree, I should get all sorts of free stuff... yanno... cuz I'm Beepster. ;-)

one ridiculous question : are you guyz really gonna use it as soon as it's out ? or just intsalle it in parallel to X1 and get familarized with it ? (until it's X2D and fully stable ) ?
Yep, I will still have X1 installed just in case I have a melt-down, but yes, I am going to start my next project with X2.

I have to admit though, my next project will be paid for partly with $$$ and partly with beer, so not so much pressure.  Seems like a good opportunity to get my feet wet with X2.

If I am going to be spilling beer, it had better be on my feet.  It's no so good for keyboards or audio equipment (speaking from experience)

Wait... 5 GB? That's no problem. I was told to expect 10-15. But maybe that's with all the Suite goodies and other stuff I already have.

That is just Sonar X2, The 5 gig count does not include Dimension pro beatscape or the other goodies. Those are already installed. just going to download X2 without all the extra stuff and install that. Then I will reformat my drive and reload windows 7 and do a fresh install when I get the DVDs in the mail and I had a chance to test X2

my guess is it will not be as bad as X1. X1 went through a big GUI change and a rewrite on a lot of things. my guess is X2 will be built on the X1 platform with some new features

Re:The X2 Suspense Is Killing Me ! 2012/09/17 00:32:15 (permalink)
I've always kept the old verison on my HD.  Never hurt anything.  And I usually just jumped right in working w/ SONAR new version.  Not w/ X1 - and in fact I told some collegues not to use it to finish up their CD's and such.  One look at it and I knew it was a different beast.  It was not something I wanted to try to finish up a project w/.

X2.  I imagine it will look and feel much the same as X1.  And once they get it out in the real world they will have a bug fix out pretty quick so you can start "using" it in a month or so w/o any great fears.  I never had many problems w/ new SONAR versions, but I use it here at home for  personal stuff - not asking clients to pay me for learning new software and grooming my computer.

This time, tho, I'm going straight to X2.  New computer, virgin hard drive.

Yeah, the longer the developers have with it, the better. Cuz once they push it out the door, I bet they're all gonna crash / sleep / decompress for weeks. :-)

Please don't use the word crash in reference to Sonar X2   That's just asking for trouble

I currently have 8.5.3 and X1d on my system and won't install X2 u til I read reports as to how it's working.
I've only had one bad install experience in over 15 years with Cakewalk. Even though I've preordered X2 I'll be patient.
I wonder whether that will be the case once I get the download.

Re:The X2 Suspense Is Killing Me ! 2012/09/17 08:35:32 (permalink)
I'm still sat on the fence and so haven't bothered with the pre-order, yet. And the DSF strings carrot isn't up my street at all and I'm not that bothered about being able to download a day early either. So I'm just keeping my eye on things. Not because I think there'll be any problems with X2. I am quite confident that X2 will work straight out of the box with just a few minor patches required over the coming months.

As others have said here and elsewhere, X1 was the big change with the GUI and stuff, and X2, for me, looks much the same as X1, but with a load of extra goodies, the biggest and bestest for me being the development of take/automation lanes and getting rid of those pesky layers.

When I do get X2, and it will not be to long after the release, I will probably get rid of X1 and all the bits and pieces that came with it and do a complete fresh install. I know you can run versions side by side but I've only got a couple of small SSD's for my programs. And since getting X1 a few months ago I've hardly done anything with it other that get to grips with the new interface and experiment a bit with the new synths I recently purchased. So stripping everything back and starting afresh with X2 doesn't sound like too much of a big deal for me.

@ Norrie - Out of curiosity I followed the link to your website and had a look around. I hope you don't mind me saying but you don't half remind me of Neil Peart (you might of heard of him... plays drums for a band called Rush).
