The ZOOM H4n

I just purchased this handy recorder and I'm quite happy with the versatility of it. It can interface with sonar via usb, 2 channels in. Good stuff.

Yep, even the original H4 could be used as an audio interface. I believe they ship with ASIO drivers with reasonable latency too.

Now that people have had these for a few months... any further reviews?  I'm seriously considering the H4n and trying to evaluate against some competing products.  My primary use, at least initially, would be solo acoustic guitar & accompanying vocal.  Hoping I would get recordings of decent quality that I could then easily upload to Sonar for further work... since dragging my DAW up and down the stairs to the basement is not my path of choice!  Any advice would be welcome.

I didn't know it could be used as an interface either. I like ZOOM more and more each day.

I have nothing to add technical info wise for you Mutt, but I've seen some price cuts lately on the H4n, so you should be able to find a good deal somewhere on it. I don't know if that means something new is coming or not though. Just search around for the deals.

My Zoom H2 is really handy for recording the odd live show/band practice as well as for getting some found sounds for sampling manipulation.  I understand the H4 is a very nice upgrade.

Here's a page with all the latest hand held recorders on them:

    http://www.amazon.com/s/?...;ref=pd_sl_8rbmjy0ld_e

I liked the h4n and in fact all of these units are nice but I was going to get the Tascam100 as it has two XLR inputs on the bottom and two different stereo onboard mics...but you can only use one set of mics at a time...I was all set to get one of these when I was told to check out the R16...

If you just want to record a show these hand helds are something.

How about audio output? The device has only a miserable 1/8" minijack output, how do you guys monitor your sounds when using the H4n as an audio interface?
