The cable that connects the 700r with the 700c....

I bought these two units separately, and now I don't have the cable that connects them.  I am a little surprised that it was not included in the 700r package.  Where do I get this cable?  Is it proprietary, or can i grab one from Microcenter?

I would think it would have come with the V 700 C. Contact Cakewalk, it is a custom cable.

Good point this... I'm in the (possibly) same boat... will go check to see if the 700C had this cable with it.

UPDATE: nope.. no cable with the 700C... have emailed an inquiry to my 700R seller to see if it is included. How could this be overlooked by CW/Roland though? Would not make sense or is it a separate item you find out you need once you actually try and plug them together... odd methinks. Will do some homework.

Yeah.... little bit of a mistep I think.  Just seems to me that you'd package it with on of the two.  Really a bummer to get everything out, racked, then realize you can't even use it together.  I emailed Cakewalk tech support.  Please report back if you hear anything....I will do the same.

Yeah will do mate. I've emailed them as well... bit shocked to be honest, not like it's a generic cable after all.

No that's not the cable. The connectors aren't right. Cakewalk support will point you to the right cable.

You can still use both units via USB. You'll have to change some settings on the V700C and some of the controls and features on the C won't work with the R when not connected. I'd wait and get the cable. Then everything will work through the V700R USB.
It shouldn't be a problem to get. Maybe they owe you one.

That does look like the cable, but it's not the right one. You can see what the cable looks like in my Unboxing video... http://garrigus.com/?VStudio700

cool vid scott.  thx for the heads-up.  without someone confirming that this is the wrong cable, some overzealous, ready to rock and roll cakewalk user (ummm....not me though...REALLY.....) may have been almost ready to buy the other cable.  Awesome E-book, btw.

Alright....so the official word is that if you buy the units separately, you have to then purchase the sync cable.  Here is the official email from tech support:

"Regarding the sync cable, when you purchase the units separately they do not come with the proprietary sync cable. This is something that would have to be purchased separately.

To set up the VS-700C and VS-700R WITHOUT a sync cable:

    1. You  must install the drivers for the full system. Drivers can be found on our website here.
    2. When the driver installation asks you to connect and turn on your VS-700, connect ONLY the VS-700R with a USB cable.
    3. When the driver installation is complete, you can connect the VS-700C to your computer with a USB cable. For now, you will want to leave the DIP switch settings in the back of the VS-700C unit set to stand-alone mode, which is most likely how it is currently configured. (this is with DIP switch 1 in the “On” position)
    4. You can now use both the VS-700C and VS-700R

NOTE: in this setup, you will not be able to use the Aux input or the headphone outputs on the VS-700C. Additionally, the Audio Output controls on the VS-700C will not control the Monitor MAIN and SUB outputs on the VS-700R.

To set up the VS-700C and VS-700R WITH a sync cable:

    1. You will not need to reinstall the drivers, they are already installed
    2. Connect the sync cable from the VS-700C to the VS-700R
    3. Disconnect the USB cable from your VS-700C to your computer
    4. On the back of the VS-700C, in the Settings section put all DIP switches in the “Off” position. The switches will be closer to your desk. Be gentle when moving these switches, they are delicate.

At this point, you should be able to power everything up and resume as you were. Also, now that the sync cable is connected you will be able to use the Aux input and headphone outputs on the VS-700C. Also, the Monitor knob on the VS-700C will now control the level of your Monitor outputs on the VS-700R."
