The first jazz piece with the Campellone Deluxe archtop.
This was a quick rendition of one of my favorite melodies just to see how the new guitar recorded. There are just two tracks (plus a string section) One track is finger picked rhythm the other track is flat picked melody. This is just the guitar straight up plugged into my Carr Mecruy amp. I think this guitar might work for my jazz efforts. I think I'll keep it ;>) There are picutures of the new guitar if you scroll down to the bottom of my Web page. Enjoy - " A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" (3rd on the list) http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=582907 Daryl

Daryl, This is absolutely georgous. That guitar tone is just incredible. A little more strings would be nice (Listening on PC speakers at work). This is so nice and sweet on so many levels. Thanks for sharing. I know this was a quick rendition but boy I'd live to hear a brush kit in there. Thanks for sharing, Rich

I remember when you were talking about this guitar? How do you like it? I'll bet it's like sex with your favorite actress... It really sounds good Daryl. No buyers remorse? :-) There were a couple of "minor" timing anomolies, a few mix issues where it got a bit too loud all of a sudden? And a few clicks and pops, but hey? It's our imperfections that make us unique! And they were minor. Good job.

Thanks guys. There was no attempt here to mix or master this tune. It was just a recording test to see how it was going to record. I love it. Those little jazz pickups are amazingly clear in tone and no buzz or static at all. No buyer's remorse. I could have bought several really nice guitars for what I paid for this but I always wanted a big, quality, archtop. I would still keep my little Korean made PRS copy over this if I had to go down to one guitar. But for what it's for, it's a joy to play and the workmanship is as good as it gets. Daryl

That's nice. The samples on the Carr site make me really like to have one, but it's way too expensive for me. But clearly it's a great sounding amp, though of course it can only enhance the performance, not create it, so obviously very good playing and tone as well.

Hey, Daryl, Oh, Yeah, that's absolutely amazing, beautiful, creamy, clean tone, and also great playing, as always! I remember checking out the pictures on the luthier's website when you first posted about ordering the guitar. It definitely sounds like it was well worth the wait and you sure got your money's worth. Congratulations, buddy, I hope you enjoy your new instrument! Bob

Dean, I love my Carr amp, but it is not necessarily the Holy Grail. That amp cost $2300 and their are some amps available for around $1500 these days that I actually like better. The Mercury looks pretty cool, and it's a good amp, but you can find equally good amps with a lot of the same features for less money and I think in some cases a better amp, depending on your needs. Carr is an expensive amp, although not as expensive as Matchless or some of the others, but you can get some very nice boutique amps and prices under $1500. All that being said, Carr amps are very nice, but they are not the ideal clean or jazz amp, but you can EQ them to a jazz sound and they always have that slight tube edge, which is a sound I like. Bottom line, play a bunch of them with YOUR guitar. There are a lot of good amps out there and some of the best are not household names like Fender. Daryl

Hi Daryl, your new guitar sounds excellent +1 for your recording I'm with you on loving melody's from many of the older tunes ... during my listen to " A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" I was struck by how similar your playing and tone sounded to the Wes "Polka Dot's And Moonbeams " in places (might be a good tune for you to record someday if you happen to dig the song & feel ambitious ) Daryl, it is nice to be able to rap w you here on the forum again Kenny

Thanks a bunch. Glad to know that in this age of hip-hop, rap, and metal, that musicians still apprciate the classic melodies. For years I was all about the beat and the drive, and I still love those things, but I've come to learn that melody is king and i'st what stands the test of time... not to mention that there is nothing more lovely in the world than a lovely melody. I guess that's why we can still get goosebumps listening to "Over the Rainbow" even though we have heard it a million times. Daryl

Tim, no standard jazz round rounds. Thanks. It's a sweet guitar, you have to hold it and play to really apprciate it. I've always wanted a quality jazz box since I was 13, and 47 years later, I've got one :)
