The formula for getting Sound Forge 10 to work in X2- SOLVED!
I've seen the registry formula before for getting Sound Forge 10 to function in X2, but after googling, I'm unable to come up with the exact wording to change the registry and make it work right. I was successful doing this in X1 before, so I believe it can be done. I would be most appreciative if anyone can post the exact wording for me to make it work. Thanks a million.

Ugggh...I so hate that method scook. LOL! Lynn, if you want to, try this...it's a heck of a lot easier. Thanks to Scott Garrigus for hosting this for 100 years: http://www.digifreq.com/digifreq/downloads/SetupSonarUtils__302.exe This program allows you to add whatever you want to the tools menu Lynn without going into your registry and doing all that stuff. scook: I'm not downing your method...thank you for sharing that...I just think this little utility may be a lot easier for those that may not want to go in and mess with the registry directly. :) -Danny

Of course, it is not my method, and if it were, it would not bother me a bit what anyone thought of it. It is well documented and reliable. It is the only method that is published by the Software vendor. Moreover, if you rely on a program to perform the edit and it gets botched, it might be more confusing to back out. I believe that Duckbar http://www.sonarmods.com/forum/index.php (login to download) also provides a front-end to the registry edits needed to add something to the utility menu. Ultimately, whatever you do will have to generate the same result.

I merely said that there are people that do not like to mess with their registry whether it is documented and reliable or not. This program has been around since Cakewalk pro audio and still works perfectly today with a few button clicks to tell tools what to add...and a few button clicks to take things away from tools if need be. I use it on every OS I have without a problem and absolutely hate going into my registry. All I did here was offer an alternative....it wasn't meant to take away from the information you provided. My apologies. -Danny

Hey, Danny. Funny you provided a link to Scott's website with a SONAR utility. I went to his site just the other day after figuring out how to install version 8 of Sound Forge on a Win8 machine (haven't kept up with upgrades). But what I found was the long tedious method of editing the registry. If I had only waited.
Kind regards, Living Room Rocker

I just went to the Sonar page with the instructions for changing the registry to include SF. I followed the instructions to a T, and no luck. I know from past experience that there's a flaw in these instructions, and once upon a time, someone wrote out the entire process correctly, which worked for me in X1. If someone could locate those instructions, it would be most helpful, otherwise, I'll keep looking.

Oh, I have been piqued a few times. There is little percentage in venting on the forum (although I have done that too). How could anyone get mad at Danny. It does appear that the vintage SonarUtils might not work in this case. Too bad, I had forgotten about it until Danny posted. I recall having it installed on one of my older machines. It was a handy tool. Well, there is still Duckbar. Overkill for this issue but it will do the job and provides some rollback capability.

The instructions are letter perfect. There is a typo in your registry, maybe a space in "Wave Editor" (wrong) instead of "WaveEditor" (right) if I were guessing Here are my registry entries in export format (your SF path may be different):
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Tools Menu\Sound Forge] "ExePath"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Sony\\Sound Forge Pro 10.0\\Forge100.exe" "MenuText"="&Sound Forge" "StatusBarText"="Run Sound Forge" "Type"="WaveEditor"

No, that is what the registry export function spits out. Also you only need a single \ where you see \\ too, that is another part of the export function. Make sure that your values (without the quotes and double \) are the same. Alternately you could cut and paste the bottom of that post into a file with a .reg extension and then right-click on the file and merge it into the registry.

Scook, thanks for your quick replies. I got SF to show up in the utilities menu, but even after highlighting an audio clip, it will not open SF. I know I'm getting close. What about spacing between the words in the registry file? Space or no space? How about capital letters? scook No, that is what the registry export function spits out. To be safe, just type it in exactly as the instruction say. If Sound Forge is not loading, check the ExePath value. That must be the exact full path to your Sound Forge Program. Mine is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\SoundForge Pro 10.0\Forge100.exe but yours could be different, if you have a Sound Forge icon on your desktop, you can right-click on it, bring up the properties. The path will be in the Target entry. You can copy and paste that (without the quote marks if there are any) into the registry ExePath value. Edit: changed my comment about case and whitespace. The best thing to do is follow the instructions without deviation.

I'm hooked on this thread, awaiting the outcome. It's a good read!

Scook, thanks again for your time and effort. I followed the instructions to the T, in fact, I've done this correctly when I had X1, and it worked like a charm. You're probably right that somewhere is some tiny mistake that I'm not seeing, but I haven't found it, yet. I've also run this Sonar utility program over and over with no success. My last question: does anyone have it working in X2?

Yes, I do. I am using SONAR Producer X2a 64bit, Win7 Home Premium and Sound Forge Pro 10. I tested it again before posting. I am sure you verified the actual path to your copy of Sound Forge. If Sound Forge is not launching, it sounds like a path problem. If you cannot spot the problem, you could try the method I suggested about cutting and pasting the registry data from my post. I don't know if it matters, are you running SONAR as administrator?

Eureka! I got it working at last. Your formula is exactly right without the quotation marks and double slashes. To anyone wanting to try this, be aware that capital letters and spacing must be exactly right. I'm sure I missed a space somewhere along the way, but it's working now. Thank you so much for your help. Having SF available within Sonar is a valuable tool. And, Cakewalk, please update your instructions! @ Scott Garrigus - take note because your utility is incorrect. Scook's got the wording exactly right. But, thanks for your time, and best to you. scook Yes, I do. I am using SONAR Producer X2a 64bit, Win7 Home Premium and Sound Forge Pro 10. That was easy. Good news. It might be that SonarUtils just does not support 64bit as was mentioned earlier. Scott, you might want to check and make sure. If that is the case maybe it should be noted on the website with a link over to the manual process (or maybe Duckbar).

For those that have it working, export that registry key. It creates a file with a .reg extension. You can then give.that file to someone else to use for adding the key to their registry to enable SF.10 in the.Sonar Options menu. Just double clicking a .reg file will add it to the registry If the path to your wave editor or the program you use is different you can edit a reg file by change the file extension to .txt it can be opened in windows notepad and edited as a normal txt file, change the extension back to reg, then double click to add to registry.
