The future...
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/wearable-tech/SM-R320NPWSXAR https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMDTWWwKlCs Samsung GEAR VR. Once this tech is better developed (and I don't see it being far into the future)... can you imagine the VR paired with gloves and pedals. It already pairs with a mobile device so the tech is there to make gloves too. I do not see why you couldn't control a VST drumkit using the gloves and a couple of pedals. Think of what the Wii could do years ago. Step inside a virtual studio and control a VST mixing board or.. heck, I'm thinking that this tech will only be limited by imagination. I hope Cakewalk and others see the potential. I could be wrong but I think that if this is developed, it could be a real game changer. Still no virtual talent but wow... the possibilities. I bet I could even find Bubba with these! J

I'll need one of those just to control one of those. IOW infinite loop.

I would have thought that the obvious thing to do there was to rig it up to another screen so that we could see what he was seeing. Pretty pointless demo as it stands. If it works though, you just know that a certain branch of the entertainment industry is gonna be all over it. ;)

Well, there is one big drawback to that... someone could walk in on someone and the "user" might not know it until they get a tap on the shoulder or a whack with a frying pan, or worse. Then there will be the "busted" videos. None of that for me, thank you. I have enough problems. I'd like to play a VST drum kit with it though. J

There are places on-line where one can navigate a tour of famous castles and I think I'd really enjoy "virtual trips" to places that I'll probably never get to see otherwise. Taking a tour of luthier shops and guitar factories and be in control of where and how long one could spend checking out interests would be a great thing IMO. I can see it being a fantastic learning tool - they'll have ways to squeeze the green out of it.

I'm not sure exactly how much virtual reality gear is necessary to "Like" cat videos on Facebook.

VR gear isn't close to being new (I toyed with it back in the 80's), but it looks like it's well on its way to becoming affordable. If you have the phone, the goggles are going for $199 and that's not bad for the technology being presented. While I also think it would be great for the reasons Michael mentions above, I think using it for training (like a luthier's POV while he does something) would be really cool. I guess they just need to incorporate some Blue Tooth gloves next, ya?
